So when was the first time that you knew something in the paint had changed? Mine was a long time back, say about maybe, gosh, it's hard to remember. But this guy had called me and asked why the black paint on his boat was getting weird. He said that when he washed it, it would leave a black haze. That the more he rubbed on it, the more black would get on the rest of his boat. I told him just to wax it. I thought, "Gee, that kinda weird, I never seen paint do that before"

I think it was bout 2000 when I started noticing the last few signs I had sprayed looked like a$$, thats when I contacted one shot, spraylat or whatever they are, they denied anything changed.
even clearcoating over some it didnt help

Back in the early eighties, I noticed the change when they went to synthetic enamels. With the old bulletin colors I could pull a stroke that went until I either ran out arm length or breath. Every now and then, I pull out one of the old cans and stir and stir and stir and try it to see if my remembrance is accurate.

Every now and then I go to the shop and stir some bulletin or lettering paint from any one of the gallons of Kem, Chromatic or 1-Shot sitting in the paint closets. I use these paints when I stripe not caring if the are lettering or bulletin but knowing they have lead in them and work which is more then I could say for any of today's paint on the market. As far as remembering, that isn't as important then having been prepared for this disaster from the incompetent persons who now believe they know more then we do.

when the maroon stripes on my van started to disintegrate to nothing like they had been wet sanded,...,.,it was about 5 or more years ago,I remember because I asked Frank Manning from one shot about it at a letterhead meet,just before he parted ways with them
