With everything being slow, I am going to offer up my design skills to anyone needing help in that area. I always do a few logos, card designs, etc. and can turn out designs pretty quick.
If anyone is interested in working with me on projects, I am open for discussion. I may even consider helping someone on larger projects where my lettering and painting skills may be needed. Have brush, will travel sort of thing.
Surely my 27 years in this business can be useful somewhere. Drop me a line.

Do you also dig post holes?
On the serious side, anyone needing top notch design work would do well to contact Mark.

I will design the specs for the holes. I'll even sell you the holes in any size. Quantity discounts available.

Oh...I see, you are a Graphic Artist.

I think Roy Frisby's the designated Letterville Hole Merchant. Maybe Mark can design them, Roy can produce them and we help out two letterheads.

David, I think it's Joe Crumley.

How much dirt is in a hole 12" wide x 12" wide x 3' deep?
Posted by Glenn Taylor (Member # 162) on :
It depends, Rusty. Is that dirt going into a hole or out?
Posted by Mark Yearwood (Member # 2723) on :
Ok, who started this "hole" thing?
Posted by Frank Magoo (Member # 3950) on :
Rusty: NONE...

Not a straight man in the bunch.
Posted by Rusty Bradley (Member # 6938) on :
Magoo has the answer...NONE...a hole is an empty space...the only reason it exists is because the dirt has been removed to create it.
Posted by Raymond Chapman (Member # 361) on :
Sorry Mark...I guess it was me.
There's no dirt in a hole...or it wouldn't be a hole.
OK...now, what where you saying Mark?

Would those holes be in assorted sizes and pressure sensitive?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I gotta add a cartoon Don Coplen did for me a couple of years back on a similar thread about the problems of digging holes in frozen ground in North America.
Alas, the business venture was doomed for a start. Despite very low freight costs (Holes don't weigh much!) Ozzie Holes from Down-Under don't work Up-Over!!!
Dirt falls back out when you try to fill them up!

Mark, this is actually a great idea. I've seen letterheads post a design then without any monetary influence....some other letterheads tweak the design and pretty soon it is enhanced to an awesome concept(s)
I've thought of sending a basic design that I am not happy with to a talented designer to provide an enhanced (even completely different) design. My stumbling block is: What is a fair price to pay for "design review/enhancement"
I also expect some to reply that "this is using someone else's skill and talent that I then sell as a project from my shop without giving credit to the designer"

Tony, I have also used other designers as well when I'm unable to do an illustration for a logo. I'm not the best at scratch illustrations. David Butler and a few others have been called on in the past. I do share with the client that I'm working as a team with someone and they have never had a problem. The end result was always worth it.
I usually charge around $50hr for design. Unfinished concepts usually don't take too long to do.
As far as using someone else's talent? I talked to a friend the other day who works for a $75 Mil a year sign company and they have nine in-house artists. The owner or CEO doesn't provide the design but the client gets an end product they are happy with.

I don't see a problem with your approach Tony, as long as the sign guy and designer are on the same page and everyone is compensated fairly.
I'd equate it to some web design/backend programming I don't know how to do and I 'farm' it out to a programmer buddy I know...he gets paid for his work on an agreed fee.
