I want to get a new digital camera. Right now I'm on Mac OS 10.4.11, but could be getting a new IMac and that means Snow Leopard. Anyone have a camera suggestion given that info? I want to stay at $250 or below. Thanks ahead of time!

I buy Canon cameras, and I've never had problems with them on a Mac or a PC. But, I generally put the media card into a card reader instead of connecting the camera with a cable. It seems to go faster, and I prefer not to install any camera software. Is there a reason you think you might run into trouble?

I just checked out the SD1200 at my Radio Shack, and the users manual says thru Mac OS 10.5. Isn't Snow Leopard considered 10.6? Wondering if there is a spot on Apple's site to find compatibility?

The compatibility would more likely be on the site of the camera maker. They would be responsible for updates to the software if there were problems with Snow Leopard.

I have 2 different brands of cameras and never even loaded the camera software. iphoto connects to the camera and just brings them in. I wouldn't worry about it. Most likely that compatibility line was written before Snow Leopard was available. In fact, everything I've ever connected to my Mac just worked, cameras, Wacom tablet, Logitech wireless mouse, dual monitors, printers, without having to load the software with the device.

I too don't load the camera software into my computer. There are plenty of editing tools in iPhoto although I use PhotoShop instead. Even our older camera seems to work just fine.
My camera of choice is a new Olympus E620 iS which I absolutely love but its a little out of your stated price range.

I bought a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX150 3 months ago and I love it. 14 mega pixel, shoots camera RAW as well as jpeg and it has a 28mm Leica lense that gives very clear images with little distortion. Small enough to fit in your pocket. Many manual features as well as auto. Found the best deal on Amazon.com for $219. They run as high as $500 elsewhere. I read a review that said Leica had the same camera under their name for $800. I don't know if that deal on Amazon is still around but it's a lot of camera for under $250.

Russ is right about the Canon. They work great. I use a Canon Power Shot at work and a Fuji S5000 at home. The Fuji is my good camera, massive lens and manual focus and shutter speed options. Although I would suggest staying away from Fuji if you are looking for a cheaper camera, their service really sucks, so does their smaller cameras.
iPhoto will read pretty much any camera so you will not need to install software for loading your picks. Now if you're used to iphoto 5 or lower, you'll notice you have an "eject" button for any camera that loads into the program. In the newer iPhoto you need to "Control>Click" the camera icon and say "unmount" to eject your camera. Anyway, any camera should connect to iPhoto.
