I wish it was something exciting and had the budget for Cat's services. Her work is outstanding.
This is for a plaque to be posted inside a motel meeting room. I'm trying to match a piece they already have which looks to be laser engraved (black) and clear coated.
Thanks Kimberly for the heads up on Cat's site.

Cat's work in this field is outstanding, plus she is a contributor here in Letterville Posted by Ian Stewart-Koster (Member # 3500) on :
If it has black text, on brass, it may have been rotary engraved with a small engraving machine like a mini cnc router, then the black ink squeegeed into the grooves, and polished off & then lacquered.
A word of warning if anyone tried this with a router: I saw a job done with a vee bit. There was a lot of text needed. The plaque was anchored with hold-downs at each edge. The heat from the considerable engraving made the brass expand, and having nowhere to go, it rose, arching up in the centre. The letters in the centre were suddenly engraved far deeper, and because of the vee bit, they were also thicker, than the letters nearer the edges.
Looking at the plaque, the boldness increased from edge to centre, and decreased toward the other edge. That would be fine if you wanted that effect, but this customer did not!
Also, you can buy engraver's brass- it has a much higher lead content, for lubrication & ease of machinability, than ordinary plate brass.
