Is this a big enough size for a tablet? I found one for a really good price.

My first tablet was that size but I never felt comfortable with it - just too small to work in. Now I use the larger 6" x 8" and it is just what I needed.
Some folks who use the larger tablet think that it might be too large.
If it's a really good price it might be useful - better than nothing.

I've had a bunch of tablets through the years... my first was a 12" x 12" which was a little large for my desk. I purchased a smaller one for travelling like the one you mention above but I found it much too small. Currently I have a 9" x 12" and the one I use daily a 6.5" x 11" which I find the perfect size.
I just looked on the Wacom site and noticed the wacom 3 is now obsolete... wacom 4 is the way to go!!! The Medium size looks to be the size I would get to travel and the Large for my desktop if I were currently in the market for new tablets.
I'm not sure what the benefits are for the new version 4.. I'm more than pleased with my Intuos 3.

If it is a really good price and you are not familiar with a tablet, it might be a good way to breach the learning curve. Different people have different opinions on what size is best. I suspect some of it is a personal preference. Some people just can't get comfortable with tablet use, so if you can get a good deal to try it out, I'd say go for it. I have a 6" X 8" and it is perfect...also have a 6" X 11" wide format - new one - and it's perfect also... had a bigger one like Dan mentioned and it's waaaaay too big.
4" X 6" would be usable....but I am almost certain you'd be very happy with the 6X8. Plus, it fits nicely in a laptop bag if you want to unhook it from your desktop and take it mobile with you.

The story of my life. I was just on the Wacom web site last Thursday, ordered my new 6x11 Intuos 3 on Friday, and the day after it comes in, there's the new Wacom Intuos 4.
The 6x11 wide screen is bigger than I expected. I'm sure I'm going to love it even though it's already old technology before I even plugged it in.

I wouldn't feel too bad though... the Inutuos 3 performs awesome...and they're sleek. I can't imagine them getting much better?!
I really think you'll like the 6X11....give it the old college try - you'll be sold. I really like mine at that size...and that's from coming off the 6X8. Both are about perfect in my opinion. Stick with it and you'll love it.

Todd, I'm sure I'm going to love it. I just didn't realize before I bought it that it took up so much desk space. It would be quite crowded on my PC desk, but I'm really considering putting the new Mac Pro on the big desk and retiring my G4. I have a feeling once it's all set up I won't be using the PC much any more.

I had an old Gerber GDS 2 digitising tablet which was great once upon a time, then bought a largish Intuous 2 which I never really got to grips with. It was too big and clumsy.
Since coming back from Dan's again and seeing how easy he always makes it all look I thought it might be worth looking into again, then I saw this post and went to Wacom's site.
I now have an Intuous 4 medium PTK-640, and am really happy with it, it has some neat features, compared to the old, toggling between one or other of 2 monitors or both the little wheel can be programmed. I have had terrible pain in my hand in recent weeks (and lower back), but though using the pen instead of mouse would help.

My first tablet was the big ol' intuos 2 12x12, and it was too big. I parted with it on ebay, bought a cintiq 12wx and have never been happier.
It rocks.

I use mine more for raster such as Photoshop and Corel Painter.
By the way, today I did go to use mine and all the settings such as assigned buttons were gone. I believe I have to go back and re-do it for each program. That ****es me off to no end.

James - I use mine for literally EVERYTHING.... and love it!
It does take about a few days to a week to get used to it....which is understandable given you've used a mouse exclusively for years...but once you get used to it...it will seem so much more natural and a LOT faster and more accurate.
Nevman - which one did you end up getting?

Thanks for all of the replies.
I went economical and got a Genius 6"x8" for $ 54.00.
Working good so far - learning curve isn't too bad as I used to use a tablet about 900 years ago. The right-click is in an awkward place on the pen but I'm getting use to that.
