I may replace the sign at a later time to something else, but in the meantime, I totally don't regret my decision. The 'design aspect' of the sign made me laugh out loud this AM which is my way of saying, it's on the whimsical edge. My kinda decorating! I had a tin of deep crayon looking red paint in my hand ready to paint red on the wall holding the sign I'll have you know, but I didn't have enough on hand! Looking at the room in the picture, it needs that red wall!
Already have my eye on a tall skinny sidetable thing with drawers at Homesense for my nightstand with cup pulls, just no extra bucks right now for it.
I don't have bedding yet, but I think I know what I want. If I can't find it, I may have to make it one day.
Still thinking of funky lighting.. the clip on lamp (clinging to the chain you can't see) is so not going to stay. Ideas?
This is so morphing into what I wasn't orginally after, just light and airy. LOL Maybe I ought to do my red wall and put the sign on the big plain wall above the stairs instead... nah, I have to carry this through, even if I change it back. I'm on a roll. Donna, you need a valance with some multi-colored neon in it! Mounted on the wall over the headboard to illuminate it. Maybe a purple neon cactus, just left of the convenience store blip. Peace, Don

Nice headboard Donna.
One of the coolest headboards I have ever seen was at a B&B at Shane's workshop last year. It was an old raised panel door lying on its side. Chipped paint and all. Very "comforting" feeling.

Bob, I had three old weathered heritage doors all different heights lined up side by side from a used place out here not long ago. They were of a smaller scale than a typical door but I wasn't sure at the time if the three would be wide enough for the width of the bed so I left it. But boy was I tempted! Two matched and the one in the middle as abit different. Cool old metal door handles intact and all.
Raymond, the current headboard is a direct result of the fact that I haven't been hanging around Dan enough. LOL

On my todo list of fun projects, is to make a cedar headboard, with sandblasted designs...thought a door with same materials and similar designs and blasting would top it off nicely. Something about the warm look of wood, and the soft cedar aroma just seems like it'd be great for a bedroom...kinda soothing.

Cool Jeff! Keep going on that idea. I think we creative types can live nicely through normalicy, but when we hit something on 'the edge', that's what fires us up. That's what happens to me anyway.
Donald, a thousand different ideas blow through my head during one given day on this headboard project. But this one I could implement all on my own. I just have to keep pushing it to fully make it work. The wall behind the sign is already RED as of yesterday and I love it!
Decorating doesn't happen in one day for me unfortunately. I'm always on the search for unique treasures that cost little to nothing and attempt to create wonderful useful things out of them. Two days ago I dragged a small metal gate door out of the dump (direct from the dumper, you can't just loot in those places). It had awesome lines, what can I say? I'll be doing much the same with cool lighting for the bedroom and such. This headboard is just leading me in the direction I have to keep going.
I don't want the room to become a cartoon around the sign. I want the sign to look like grown up art in a tastefully done bedroom. So, no neon cactus here. LOL

I think you need to stick with the garage & store theme for the rest of the room. I see a chrome wheel and raised lettered tire with a round class on top for a night stand, supported by a black jack stand. It will compliment the red wall. Maybe a red or black roll-away for your bureau. And store racks for shelves with antique stuff on them!

I could see some modern IKEA style lighting juxtaposed along side the "vintage" look of the sign....especially if you have painted the wall red......just thinking out loud.

The wall is now red and I LOVE it!
I spent a whoppin' $10 at 2 thrift stores for pillows and cases today.
Here's that goofy little stool put to better use.
So, you think this tv is big enough for the nightstand?!? LOL Yeah yeah, one day I'll actually spend money on a flatscreen, but this works for now.

Not everything is done in the room yet and I didn't show you the armoire, but I'm sure you get the idea. I didn't want alot of crap to dust, just useful pretty was enough. Still want to paint the brass hardware to black on the furniture. I'd like the armoire black and lose the tiny nightstands one day too.
