First off, a big thanks for the help, advise and encouragement on my concrete dog painting project. I decided on using the patio paint that Kelly suggested, and really liked the results. The people I did the project for were very please, and now this little guy is sitting proudly amoung their landcapes by their back door on the patio.
Here is a photo of the actual dog (one of 3 photos I drew from) and some shots of the finished work.
Thanks a whole bunch for the help in getting this off the ground for me. I had fun with it, and am thinking of trying more animal type stuff like this again.

Actually I have a life size bare white fibreglass Hereford Bull in my backyard ready to paint for a customer. Been putting off starting it, but after seeing your dog it has my juices flowing again.
Animals are not easy to make look real and you did it. Nice job Nettie!

His tounge reminds me of a stray pup I adopted years ago. He had a hunk out of his tounge and when he drank water it went everywhere.

Looks great Nettie, I'm glad the paints worked for you. Now use the leftovers and try some watered down antique effects on wood. I use them on HDU as well, but I always use a porous primer like the Coastal Enterprises one. They go a long way for a few pennies don't they!

Kelly, you bet they go a long ways. I have tons left over. I am thinking I'd try another concrete project with them. But maybe I will play around with antiquing wood.
I am the queen of over kill. I bought the store out of black thinking I'd need alot on this. I used barely one bottle of it! I spent 30 bux on paint, and only needed about 8 bux worth! And that's only because I needed a few other colours for the tongue and eyes.
I appreciated that recommendation.
Thought I'd mention that Bailey passed away two years ago, and so this project got me abit glassy eyed too. It's funny because when he was alive, Bailey had befriended an alley cat. That cat comes around now and rubs up on this statue. Pretty funny, ... and kinda touching.
Thanks for the kudos! I wasn't sure how I was going to do on this thing. It was one of those projects you leave to the last minute because it's so intimidating. I had gotten down to the eleventh hour on it, and the pressure was on!

Outstanding labor of love no doubt. Just for the hell of it...you might consider a couple of eye bolts in the bottom so it can be chained down to avoid vandal theft. That is if it will be out front.

Very nice! Those kind of projects are fun. People get so attached to their pets. I did a portrait of a dog before Christmas (it was in the portfolio section) and the lady called yesterday, talking through tears, she appreciated it sooo much. WOW! I've noticed I get the same reaction from "dog people" more than I do when I do a child or grandma. Dogs become such a part of your family I guess!
