Or is there a problem with 64 bit and those programs?

I"m chatting with Dell now, and they say quote "I can still get xp.. Microsoft has announced that they will phase out Windows XP completely (meaning providing no more security, support, or driver updates) early this year. As such, we only offer XP on a limited basis and at an additional cost, so i recommend Vista for anyone who plans to keep their computer more than a year..."

So, not sure I want to stick with XP....

What's the thoughts? Anyone using Vista 64 bit with success with Illustrator and Photoshop CS3?

Thanks.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that support for XP has been extended.

I am using Creative Suite 4 Design Premium, and all the programs (photoshop, illustrator, dreamweaver, etc.) work fine on my 64bit OS. Not sure about CS3. But IMHO, Vista's UI blows XP out of the water. You will love it, and you will want to go with a 64bit OS, because you need more RAM than the 32bit is limited to (3GB), especially 'cause Vista is a more of a RAM hog.

Todd, I don't have CS3 but this is my experience with Vista and I hope it helps. I bought a new computer with Vista 64. I installed my old copy of CS2 and reactivated it. Illustrator ran just fine... Photoshop gave me an error message and shut down everytime I launched it. Adobe tech support urged me to upgrade to CS4 which I did after a couple of failed attempts to get it to work. CS4 works great on Vista. I think they told me CS3 would work as well. I'm glad I installed CS4 because it has a 32 bit and a 64 bit Photoshop. The 64 bit Photoshop will allow you to use more of the available ram you have installed. I have 8 gigs. 32 bit Photoshop at 60% usage will use 2 gigs. 64 bit Photoshop at 60% will use over 4 gigs. According to I.T. where I work Dell can give you 64 bit XP on their computers. The company is buying us designers these new machines in a week or two. I'll let you know how CS4 runs on XP 64 as soon as I find out. You might call Adobe tech support to ask them about CS3 and Vista. They can be very helpful if you luck out and get the right guy on the phone.

Todd, I have the entire CS3 suite installed on my Vista-64 system and it works fine. I've not encountered any problems. In fact, it works better on it than on Vista-32 or XP Pro.

BTW, CS4 on Vista-64 rocks!

Thanks Guys! Appreciate that. I'm kinda swaying on the fence to decide if I want to get a new desktop before year's end....some good sales, yet Christmas is right around the corner too - so lot's of expenditures coming up.

But I do appreciate the input, because if I do make a go of it - I don't want to find out my software won't work on it...don't really want to invest that kind of dough right now.
