Nothing but a feature cover for a 'Canadian Magazine'.

Just a comment.
Looks like a well done project.
Question...on the small banner to the bottom left
where it says, Fined the Loonie. Should it be
"Find" instead of "Fined".
Just curious and not bad mouthing only critiquing.

Jack

Hey Stephen... I like it. Looks really good for a magazine cover! Is that a for real cover or just a graphic exercise?

If it's a for real cover, I do have a couple typos....

"Fined the Loonie" should be "Find the Loonie"

Also...

"Amazing" "Freshwater" (One word) and capitalize "Fishing" as well....

and a space between "Our Canada,<space>Our Stories"

And one last thing.... maybe drop one of the slashes in the dates... "January/February<space>2009"

/I can guarantee you it's a lot closer than if I tried to do one in French!! [Smile]

Stephen

You may want to check the spelling of 'amasing' too. Here on the other side of Canada we spell it 'amazing'

I find it curious why a black and white picture is roughly photoshopped into a color image... it makes you wonder about the truth of the 'fish stories' contained inside...

Also it's magazine, not magizine.

Thank you gentleman!

Yes it is a cover./FreeLance
for Readers Digest.

All your inputs to the work is very much appreciated.

And I know....
at most times I cannot spell

Dan.
the 'Black and White' is a 'photo-shot' taken around 1920.
on the banks of Nova Scotia.

'Fishing the waters of Nova Scotia' would seem to me more appropriate than fishing in the waters, wouldn't you think?

Posted by Stephen Deveau (Member # 1305) on :

Yes Joey...

But it is just a local issue topic on the, beautiful river banks and fishing around Nova Scotia.

If you are trying to add a bit of a historic feel (the 1920's pic) you could maybe take the color out of more of the picture (maybe sepia tones) to give it a bit of balance.

I think it's cool that you have that picture to work with but nobody (few) will know what or why that small part is black and white just by looking at the cover. (unless you put a caption I guess)

What is the triangle thing in the center?
To me it looks like a barn in the river.

well
one thing is for certain
its either brook trout
or a char

I think the triangle thing in the river is a retainer wall for the river. It looks like there's a bridge above.

Posted by Mark Matyjakowski (Member # 294) on :

that would make more sense than a barn

Stephen, there's some nice work there, but typographically, I would still do as Jon suggested, and add a space between the comma and 'Our' in the subtitle, plus I'd shift the subtitle to the right a bit, to centre it more.

I can't see why you have capitalised the first letters of Brook & Stream, when they're just plain old nouns. Also, it reads not as well, in my opinion, having 'fishing' on the third line- I feel it should be in the same line as brook & stream.

Perhaps the loonie could have the date photoshopped to become 2009 also- being able to see 2007 doesn't help, unless there's a special reason for showing 2007.

I'm also not keen on the slash before 2009.

I see now, your heading...I'd have worded it
"nothing but a [bold]proposed[/bold] feature cover..."

I'm just happy to see a bar code that actually belongs there!

ok i want the cash,i spotted the loonie holding in the upper left

Posted by Jon Butterworth (Member # 227) on :

Ian, the term "loonie" in Canada refers to their dollar coin ... hence Stephen's clip art of a 2007 coin.

Although I have also heard the term used in Canada refering to other things.

I personally think Stephen's effort is a true reflection of "letting your Imagination run wild".

Stephen, the fisherman appears too condensed in the vertical sence. May want to fatten him up abit.

Posted by Ian Stewart-Koster (Member # 3500) on :

Jon, all you say makes sense, but I thought 2009 would be a more appropriate date to be displayed on the coin, if it had to show a date at all, that is.

Shouldn't this be in the portfolio section?
