Does anyone know where I can get reflective white paint that can be brushed on sandblasted signs. I have a customer that wants reflective white borders and copy on a number of street signs, ie; stop signs and the like. I have used reflective vinyl applied to lettering before on blasted signs, but I am not confident about appling vinyl to the facing edges of a sandblasted sign. Any help is always appreciated!

I think what you want is reflective beads:

Available here: http://www.misterart.com/store/view/003/group_id/2239/Rolco-Reflective-Beads.htm
I didn't check if any of our vendors here had it but I would guess one does.

Dave, I didn't know there was such a thing! We have always just used the beads and been pretty happy with that. Haven't used them in years though.
Man, that paint is expensive! $100/gal.

Thanks for the link Dave. That paint looks interesting.

We tried the glass beads at Joe Crumley's router workshop. It did work, but the reflectivity was less than I would want if it were me.

Phil, I've put reflective vinyl on sandblasted signs with no problem. The only thing it didn't hold up to was the drunk that ran over the sign with his pickup truck. [Rolling On The Floor] It did provide me with a nice repair job. [Wink] When we do this we design the letters with a small outline in a contrasting color and cut the vinyl a minimum of 1/16th smaller than the blasted letter. A 1/16th to 1/8th border, depending on letter size, looks good. Use clear transfer tape and just eyeball the reflective vinyl letters into position.

I had a job a couple weeks ago, and was looking for reflective paint. Couldn't find any around locally at the time.

Rustoleum makes a clear reflective spray paint. It has a mail box on the can. I finally found a can but havn't tried it yet. It's a semi-transparent spray, and is supposed to give the base color reflective properties. > > http://www.rustoleum.com/CBGProduct.asp?pid=125
