Has anybody had a Gerber Edge print head replaced recently? What's it cost these days?
I've got a bad pixel in mine and am waiting to hear back from Gerber.
Prolly a silly question; but are there any alternatives to sending it back to Gerber to get it repaired?
-Thanks!-

Frank,
The cost is going to depend on a few things. But, depending on the model you have, the last time I checked it would cost around $2500 to $3000.
Some of the vendors like Advantage Sign Supply have free loaner programs and such.
Anyhow, if you are a heavy Edge user like I am, I strongly recommend purchasing their extended warranty. That combined with the free loaner from my vendor has literally saved me thousands of dollars.

I've had mine replaced twice since 99 and as much as I hate them, I've carried the service contract also. It might be a wash in the end but planning on $800 rather than being surprised bye 3 grand is worth it.
Don't hold me to that $800 cost. That may be grandfathered.

Last time I had mine done it was 1200 for an overhaul and freight both ways. I think that was in 2005 Bill

Thanks, guys.
I figured it was going to be upwards of 3 grand. I bought this Edge used three years ago and it shows just over 46000 print minutes - 768 hours. I have no idea if it is the original print head or not, but if it is; it's probably past due!
I'm going on vacation for 10 days next month, and maybe my Edge will head off to the Gerber "Spa" while I'm gone...

UPDATE
I spoke to Vicki and Gerber and she told me that Gerber no longer services the Edge 1 (or Edge Classic), or the old trunion models. She gave me the name and number of a Gentleman in Connecticut that still services them.
He quoted me $700 to replace the print head and give it a general cleaning and a good once-over. Even paying the shipping both ways, that's way cheaper than I thought it would be. Since I have so much invested in foils, and so many repeat jobs that are set up for the Edge, getting it fixed/re-habbed is a no brainer at that price!
...and when it comes to "no-brainers", I'm eminently qualified...

Frank are you saying that price includes the head? Or is that just for Labour?

As far as I know, it includes the head. I'll post updates once everything is done.

I can't see how it would include the printhead, Gerber charges around 3 grand to replace one... but you never know.
