I am committed to making a flat painted sign for a church with tempory changeable panels (winter hours, summer hours, etc.) It just occured to me that after 4-6 months, when these panels are to be changed, they will have fused together and be difficult to separate. Is there some kind of suggested interface to use between them? I was thinking of some kind of wax, but have no idea.

I've made signs like this before and never had problems with them actually "fusing" together. As long as the paint had time to cure properly, I don't think this will be an issue. But if you are worried, what about putting four short screws into the corners of the back of the panel, so that the panels do not touch the sign?

When I make changeable panels for apartment hours signs, I put little squares of the self adhesive loop side of velcro on the background. The mounting screws snug the panel to the velcro but not to the point of allowing the panel to touch the substrate. Just to be safe, I also make sure I put the squares in locations that won't touch the vinyl copy on the back side of the panel.

I use fender washers between the two panels as spacers on the mounting screws for the panel.
