Yesterday my Corel was kind of sluggish and at one time I got an error message saying Corel was out of memory. I cleared all temporary internet files and cookies and ran a disc cleanup, but this morning I am getting more error messages, saying "Temp drive or Output Drive may be full. I can not copy or even save anything in Corel anymore. I don't know of any other drive or a separate Corel memory? I relly gotta figure this out or I can't do my work.
I'm using Corel 10 on a Dell Dimension 3100, there should not be such a problem. Do I need to transfer some Corel files to a disc and remove them from the computer? I'd really appreciate your help. Thanks.

Ok, I found out that if I start a new file, I can save that. In the file I am working right now, I can't. Come to think of it, I have had it happen too many times lately that in the middle of something, Corel shuts down on me. You know, that error message "Corel has encountered a problem and needs to shut down". What's up with all that?

Lotti..It has been a while since I used ver 10 but it seems to me it was kind of flaky that way. I recall having to start saving files as CMX instead of CDR in order to avoid unexpected shut downs and memory error messages.
Try saving as CXM and see if that helps.
maybe time to upgrade to ver X3? or X4 even???

Is there a "scrath disc" assigned, like is typical for Photoshop? Does your C drive have plenty of space?

Doug, the C drive has 131 GB of free space. How can I find out if there is a scratch disc assigned?
That leads to the question, where does all the memory from the clipboard go? Does it automatically delete itself?
Dave, it lets me save it as CMX but when I try to open it again, or import, it says Invalid File Format. You're probably right on the upgrading issue...

I have it set up so that it cleans my registry once a week on all of my computers. I had one that was giving me memory errors all the time. I ran RegCure and problem solved.
There could be any number of things that can cause a memory error problem. But I've found that more often than not, I can track the issue to a corrupted or cluttered registry.

If you've copied something large to the clipboard, I think it stays there till you've copied something else, or you close the file. (it usually asks if you want to keep clipboard contents when closing)
You can probably clear out the clipboard with a push of a button, but I usually just copy something small back to it to erase the larger image, since it can only copy one thing at a time.
If it's happening after copying something large to the clipboard, that may be some of the problem you're having with ram memory.

Oh wow, I ran a free scan with that RegCure program and it found 1253(!)problems, of which 717 with File/Path References and 336 Empty registry keys. Normally I am sceptical with these things but if Glen approves it I think it's ok, so I registred it($29) to be able to run the repair function. We;ll see if it makes a difference. As with all things that deal with the Registry, be sure to set a restore point before letting the program do any cleaning. After cleaning, reboot the computer and see if you can get it to trigger another memory error.

Lotti, click tools and then customize. Find and click memory. Crank the box for memory usage to about 80% then restart corel. When you are working with smaller files you can change it back. Posted by Lotti Prokott (Member # 2684) on :
John, that makes sense! I guess that memory option is there for a reason.. Now do I HAVE to change it up and down? What happens if I just leave it up at about 70 or 65?

This uses free space on your hard drive as ram. It works good for large files but the hard drive is not as fast as ram and your program will be a little slower at saving files. Try it! You can always set it back. Posted by John D. Heller Sr. (Member # 8712) on :
I'm confusing myself now. This increases the percentage of the ram corel will use as memory. You can go to computer/Properties/advanced then in the performance window click on settings. In that window check adjust for best performance then click on the advanced tab. Go to the window virtual memory. This is where you can change the page file size. If you have a lot of free space on your hard drive you can increase the size significantly. If you have say 2gig of ram and you buy 6gig of hard drive you have now 8 gig of ram. Just not as fast as if it were all ram. Just remember when you are making changes to your computer always make a list as you go so you can re-set everything back if you need to.

Well, after I run the registry repair and increased that memory from 25 to 60 it seemed to really slow down everything. It also did a bunch of other strange things, like changing my custom settings and giving me an "open" file option when I pressed "import". Not saying it had to do with that last change, it could have been from whatever screwed it up in the first place. After I restarted the computer and set the memory back to 35 it has been working fine. Keeping my fingers crossed.
