So what exactly is the point of them doing this? I don't see what they get out of it.
Posted by Nevman (Member # 332) on :
Lotti...
They get you by having you charge the full amount to their stolen credit card but then they want you to ship them using their shipping agent using your credit card. Once they have the card # they can start using that to get your cash and stuff.
Posted by David Harding (Member # 108) on :
Another part of the scam is that they will pay you several thousand dollars extra for shipping and then have you deduct the actual cost of shipping from that amount and send the balance to them via Western Union Moneygram. Shortly after you've wired them the money, your bank lets you know the cashiers check/money order/charge card that you were paid with has been found to be fake and those thousands of dollars they sent you are deducted from your account.

If I hang a dead chicken over my hard drive at midnight, will they stay away from me?
Posted by David Harding (Member # 108) on :
Lotti, after a while, everyone else will, too!

Get this!!!!
My husband posted a WANT ad on Craig's list for a 57 Pontiac Safari.
He got a response from a guy wanting to BUY the CAR WE HAD LISTED FOR SALE!!!
What???? So I told him about the first time this scam came about and the Letterhead who claimed he was the devil...and responded to him as the devil.
So, of course, Paul, being a bit of a smart ass, told the guy that the car was available, was in our family since 1945 and that we would accept $73,000 for it.(remember we are LOOKING for a car, we don't have one.)
So the dude sends back a question if we would take a cashier's check for it....
BTW, if anyone knows of a 57 Safari for sale, please let us know...Just missed one at Barrett-Jackson, so we will build our own!

Not to mention... How could you have owned a 1957 Pontiac since, 1945???

Anybody want a DeLorean I've had since 57?
Posted by Nikki Goral (Member # 7844) on :
I didn't know if you guys would catch that!
So the saga continues. Paul is going to accept a check from the guy and hand it over to one of our many friends who are in law enforcement. More or less for the harassment value of it.
One of our friends had the same thing except she got phone calls from the TTY system like the other post had listed. She was selling her puppies and this guy wanted one shipped to London, as he was in a wheel chair, deaf, blah blah blah. My friend is a caring persona and felt sorry for him, until her husband; career military, cut the thing off and notified the local police and InterPol.
They found the guy in Germany, and arrested him with computer fraud.
Anyway, it's nice to screw with those people once in a while anyway. It makes for amusing posts!
