Another great talent gone. I'll always remember the only time I spent with Shep at the sandcastle meet a few years back and the awesome chevy '57 painting he gave me then. What a great guy.
My condolences to the family and friends.

I viewed the website that Sam Steffan posted about earlier this morning, and instantly thought of Shep.

Now I'm reading this and I'm truly saddened.

He will be thought of very fondly and with appreciation by those of us whose lives he touched on this board.

Over the years there have been friends made via this board and eventually we met face to face and were delighted to find that who we thought we knew through electronics is really who we were. I've yet to meet Shep face to face, but through the years have come to know and love him, and someday we'll recognize each other face to face.

Good journey, my friend.

Shep was not only a talented artist but was a true gentleman as well. I really enjoyed spending time with him at the Sandcastle meet and at his first woodgrain workshop. Rest in peace Shep, I'm looking forward to seeing you again on the other side.

Donald, thanks for letting us know about this. Do you happen to have the name of the funeral home that's taking care of his services?

Rene, that was pretty neat to say that John just hired him top install a new sign at the gates!

Bless his heart, but maybe he is gilding with the very best of the gold leaf in heaven! We never see that side while we are here, do we?

Blessings to his family too.

I just received the news from you Dave, by email. Such a sad day indeed. Although I never met Shep in person, I like others, knew him through the "special" gift that he had with us and shared through the years here in letterville. My life has become much richer through knowing Shep like this.
May Shep's family have peace and comfort through this difficult time. God Bless you, Shep.

To those of you who have asked, Shep's funeral will be held on Thursday at 2:00 pm at New Grace Baptist Church, Toast, NC. It was his wish that he be cremated, his wife has suggested that anyone wishing to do so, may send a potted plant, that will be tended in his memory. In my opinion, a fine living tribute to a fine person. Thanks from his family and myself. Peace, Don

Condolences from here too, it's always sad to lose a good one, though we must all accept fact that at some time in our lifes, we must move on to other pastures...Shep lived a good life, as evidenced by his commitment to his talents, he will be sorely missed by those who knew him and those that knew of him, like me...God speed Shep, may you be in heaven 1/2 an hour before the devil knows you're gone...

God Speed Shep!!
...one of letterville's elders, a man who always seemed to convey the perfect balance of a refined and content soul. It was, and still is, an honor to hang with the same crowd.

Sad day when people pass away, but through places like this you are lucky to "meet" some great and talented people, those times and memories will always be with us.

I remember how Shep was quite active on the portfolio page a couple of years back, that was great.

I can remember being a kid on my bike back in the mid sixties and we would go peek in Shep's shop door on our way home from school,...It was always amazing the stuff that went on in there,..He would run us off to keep us away from the toxic fumes, and wet paint,...but we'd always sneak back a day or so later, as there was always some kind of wild hot rod or custom van like we only saw in the hot rod magazines. I guess we were a pain at times but it was really neat to see what he had new going on each week, especially for a ten year old,....later in my life after I had my own sign business and was working on the road chasing the race and hot rod circuits for the local tobacco advertisers ,I'd run into him through friends and I'd ask if he was the same guy who had the paint shop on Waughtown St. He would kid us about being such persistant pests and laugh,…then shoot the bull about all the old shops we’d worked in or around town over the years, either as old hat `wall dogs or easel painters, then swap tall tales about local guys we’d both worked with over the years. The year after 911 , he came down to the track and we got to do a huge “Support Our Troops” sign on top of the main tower for the boys and gals over there,…gratis of course, he wouldn’t have it any other way,...The man always had that “artists’ “ sparkle in his eye,...mischievous and searching for way to do good with his blessing,….
