I need to buy one. It would be used for high quality color renderings of sign designs. Bells and whistles would be fun but not necessary. I'm looking for something under $1000. Any suggestions?

Brad:
I have used Epson printers for years, and I love how they print. Some people here have bashed them, but with very little cost, and low maintanance I find them a GREAT value. Check out this 14" x 19" unit on sale from Epson.

I agree with Robert about Epson printers. I've got a Photo 2200 which I've always been pleased with. It's been very dependable and the print quality is great. I really like that each color has it's own cartridge too. You only buy what you need and don't throw away perfectly good ink like the combined cartridges.
I bought mine a few years back for $600 and I'm sure the new models are even better for the same money.
The only thing you've got to remember is that you can't just run any paper through it. When I tried non Epson paper, the ink didn't dry (or get absorbed) quickly enough and the guide rollers picked the ink up off the page.

I have a Cannon Pro 9000 which we use for all our presentations. It prints pretty awesome prints on photo paper.
It has eight colors in separate cartridges which can be replaced individually as they run out.
It feeds reliably and I'm very happy with it!
