A while back I got an email from Signs Canada regarding a Canadian Sign contest. As I recall the contest was open to Canadian sign shops with the caveat that any work entered had to have been done in Canada in the last two years.

I had to scramble a bit for this was the year we did most of our work in the US by coincidence. I recieved the email back when we were fighting the big deadline of our Minnesota job, but one evening I stole a little time and popped a couple of projects into the running via email. I was planning on digging up a few more but in the crazy days of meeting the deadline I just plain forgot all about it.

Last week we got a call from the editor of the magazine. Turns out our work placed first in the unusual category. Nothing too unusual about that. We tend to do well that category in most contests we enter... if they have such a category. Even so I was very pleased!

But the editor went on to tell us we also recieved the most votes of any sign entered and therefore won the best overall category as well. THAT was cool! The prize involved a feature in the magazine... very cool! and an all expense paid trip to Orlando to the SGIA '07 Show... BONUS!.

We bought a second ticket for Janis and the magazine editors kindly allowed us to extend our stay in the Florida as well so we get to go see Mickey too! The trip is in late October.

The sign that won the prize was the Hell's Gate Airtram. We hope to start the second phase in the next couple of weeks.

Yea, yea...whatever.

Congratulations, anyway. You can get some more inspiration from one of your favorite places.

All I ever get from a contest is a plaque or certificate. You Canadians do things up right.

I'd love to see a jpeg of the work you're talking about Dan. Your work never ceases to amaze.

I've never gotten any free trips out of winning awards but they have helped sell jobs many times, often as the high bidder. It does pay to enter the contests.

If you can build a sugar castle out of sugar cubes, anything's possible with you.
I'd love to see your shop sometime! Have fun in Disney World; oh, btw, you should cop a job from them too!
