Hey Everybody!

I will soon be installing eye hooks to some small 1.5" squares of HDU. I have read that you should drill the holes larger and fill them with "Sign Grip or an equivalent Urethane Adhesive". Can someone offer some advice about which epoxy or adhesive is best suited for this application? Much appreciated. -Sarah

Hi Sara,
Many decent epoxies will work for this purpose. J B Weld, Loctite, and Duro all manufacture ones that will work. In the past, it seemed the ones that cured slower wound up being stronger than the quick setting ones; but you're not going to be supporting a tremendous amount of weight, so the quick setting ones would probably be OK.

Howdy Sara,

Drilling a receiving hole works very well. You can also install all-threads while the exposy is setting up. A thin piece of cardboard with a hole will keep these upright.

There's also the option to coat your screws with vaseline which will allow removal after the epoxy has set up

One additional technique is to widen the bottom of the drill hole with a small chisel or drill bit. While this step probably is overkill, I do it anyway.

Good luck
