Just melted a 4x8 sheet of styrofoam assuming we could glue 2 pieces together.We used a clear glue made by DAP.We are trying to make 4 inch thick letters out of this material.If anyone knows what kind of adhesive we need to use, your reply will be greatly appreciated.

Good old fashioned 100% sillycone brudda (not the paintable kind!) use it all the time....

Liquid Nails also makes an adhesive suitable for styrofoam. Since they make so many different adhesives, you have to read the labels carefully to make sure you have the right one. Home Depot (at least around here) sells the one for styrofoam in the big caulking tubes as well as the smaller ones.
An advantage of Gorilla Glue is that it is of a similar density and glue lines probably won't show as much as with the Liquid Nails.

You can also use polyvinylacetate glue, the white stuff or "Elmers Glue" as it's commonly known.

PL300 Your local home center should carry PL300 and it says right on the blue label its for foam.
Drivit also makes an adhesive for foam, but you'll have to find the nearest drywall supplier that carries that line, and they may not sell it to you.
Winlok Foam2Foam is the best bang for the buck. You need a $39 applicator gun, a canister of Foam2Foam and a canister of cleaner. (About $75 to get started. You wont use the cleaner until you remove the canister from the gun, which you will not remove until replacing it with another canister.
Foam2Foam will glue 20 times more than 1 large tube of PL300 or Drivit Adhesive.
You will have to search to find the closest WinLoc dealer, or one that will ship it UPS.

Thanks guys We used the liquid nails for styro that David Harding sugested,it works great.Home Depot graciously voluntered to replace the melted styro and refund the cost of the Dap glue.
