Hey! I need to figure out the best way to do a roof install. The sign will be a circle with text and mountain tops breaking the picture plane. Can anyone offer up some advice for me? Thanks so much for your time. Cheers, Sarah Oh, by the way, I plan for this sign to be machine routed in Cedar.

You don't have much for details Sarah. What ever mechanical connection you have planned to the roof, have a licenced roofing contractor do it. Preferably have the owner deal directly with the roofer. Never, never put a hole in a roof yourself... no matter how small. That said, it can be safely done, however not many communities will grant a permit for it, and least not without an engineers stamp. Hey, Thanks for the advice. I do not have a plan at this point for installation. The owner of the biz will be consulting with the roofer. I guess that it may be best to have the roofer do the job. That would certainly relieve some of my stress. I understand that I would need to have a metal structure built according to the pitch of the roof, etc. My main concern is how to attach the sign to that, considering that the sign will be oddly shaped.

somethings ARE BETTER DONE BY PROFESSIONALS.... and ROOF SIGNS NEED TO INSTALLED BY A LICENECED ROOFER!!! never deviate from this............unless you got pockestful of money, one heck of a liability insurance plan, or are doin it on youre own roof!!!!!

Sarah, just make sure that the mounting holes through the steel are oblong (you'll need someone with a milling machine to do this), & lagbolt the sign from the back side. The bolts can't be snugged up too much either, because the point of this is to allow the sign to move with changes in humidity & temperature. Wood will not change its length, but will shrink & expand across the grain. A 3' high sign will move by as much as 3/8". If you want to e-mail me the drawings with sizes, I'll draw up what I'd do with it ( I mount cedar all the time). You have my address. The part about getting a roofing contractor to do this installation is damned good advice. TR
