Hope you all have a great Valentine's Day. I got up this morning and made an oatmeal cake and scrambled eggs and bacon. Tonight we are going to see Tommy Castro and out for supper! (IF the roads are clear enough and the airport is open so he can get here!) How are you spoiling your honey today?
Here's a little humor from me...
When Dan found out he was going to inherit a fortune when his sickly father died, he decided he needed a woman to enjoy it with. So one evening he went to a singles bar where he spotted the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. Her natural beauty took his breath away. "I may look like just an ordinary man," he said as he walked up to her, "but in just a week or two, my father will die, and I'll inherit 20 million dollars." Impressed, the woman went home with him that evening and, three days later, she became his stepmother.

I have it at home, Mike. I'll try to remember to bring it in tomorrow. I know it's 1 c. flour, 1.c oatmeal, 1.c graham cracker crumbs, 3/4 c. packed brown sugar, 1 tsp. each, baking soda & baking powder, salt, 3 eggs, 1/2 c. oil and 1 cup buttermilk... but I know there's somethings I'm leaving out.... Bake at 350 for 40 minutes in a greased bundt pan.

I have three daughters and my wife at home with the flu. Two of my daughters felt good enough to go out to lunch with me, then I took then back home. This should be a great Valentine's day around our place.

We went home for lunch so here it is: Oatmeal Breakfast Cake 1 cup all-purpose (I used unbleached) flour 1 cup old fashioned oats 1 cup graham cracker crumbs 3/4 c. packed brown sugar 1/3 c. granulated sugar 1 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. baking soda 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 c. vegetable (I used canola) oil 1 cup buttermilk 3 eggs Preheat ove the 350 degrees. Coat a 12 cup Bundt pan with cooking spray. Mix the dry ingredients together and the wet ingredients together in seperate bowls and then whisk the two together. Spoon batter into prepared pan. Bake 40 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool for 5 minutes and then remove from pan. Serves 16. per serving: 190 calories, 9g fat, 4g prot. 26g carbs, 1g fiber 130m sodium. It's a thick, dark cake, almost like a fruit bread. I think it would be good with raisins or dried fruit in there too.

Stevo sent me 18 roses yesterday. I had a goofy bouquet with a balloon attached sent to his work, just so folks would rib him. I also got a Whitman's Sampler from Rachael! We had a weird weather situation yesterday with 9" of snow, then it rained. So there is 1" of ice underneath the 3 new inches we got today. Butler has pretty much come to a standstill. There hasn't been school for two days, so Justis had no Valentine's party. Rachael is making spaghetti for us for supper, there is a loaf of bread in the oven, and we already made a chocolate dessert. Here is my new little great-niece Regan. She has eyes like me! Poor kid. Love....Jill

So what is Valentines Day? What's it to you? Why would you celebrate it? Why would you let a day tell you how to behave any differently than any other day? Why would someone want to live with expectations?
I've never understood holidays like this and always assumed that Madison Ave. designed it to make some green.
Happy whatever any day !
