Hi, I have been toying with the idea of going into business for myself for along time. One of my hurdles was getting a website together. I thought I would either have to devote two years of my life studying html or I would have to save up to afford a web designer to design a site for me. I decided to try and make a website and see what happens. For those of you who are in the same boat as I was, making a site for your self is very easy and alot of fun. I actually enjoyed the whole process of making a site to actually getting a domain name. Its pretty exciting to see your site come to life. Anyways my whole topic was that anyone who has thought about getting themselves a website and are short on cash, should try making it themselves. You might surprise yourself! My total cost was $12.00 and yes I am not a Dan Antonelli and it probally does looks like a $12 dollar website too If anyone is interested I can explain the whole process I took from beginning to end if they are interested.
Charles, that is GREAT! I just built my own site this year for about $8.99...but yours is sooo nice! Love...Jill

I would definitely be interested in your commentary. I'm in the process of putting a site together (on a shoestring budget)so any tips would be appreciated.....
Currently, I'm using a free authoring program called N-vu that seems to have fairly good capabilities with a WYSIWYG format, but I don't mind purchasing Front Page if that's much better. Thanks for your help.

GREAT job! So many sites today are chock full of too much stuff. That is clean, elegant and flat out fantastic. Especially the "A"...
Seriously, the first thing I thought was, wow, my father would have LOVED that A and then I clicked on it. Thank you so much. It's gorgeous.

Yes, me thinks Al would have approved, too.
CBdO, you are one of the finest lettering artists I know. Outstanding work. Just outstanding.
I understand your love of brush lettering. I truly do. Nice website. Clean and uncluttered.

Nice Job!
I love the scripts too, and your logos are great. Just a heads up, on the Al Zanetti "A" page, you spelled "beautiful" wrong. (whups!)
Hey, but I knew what you meant, because it was indeed beautiful.

Well I guess for 12 bucks you're bound to get some misspelled words . Thanks for catching that Janette. And thank you guys for such nice comments, you guys really made my day. Sonny, here is the process I took to make this. I came across this program on the Internet called webstudio 4. I installed it to see what it was all about. My intentions were to only make a single page with no links, just my contact info. Well after playing around with it, I started having some fun with it. You can preview your site online which I thought was pretty cool. While I was in the process of making this I got a domain from Yahoo for 1.99 for the first year and $10 after that. That takes about a day or so to propagate, so that would probably be the first thing I would recommend doing before you start making your site. Once you got your domain and website finished you need to have a company host it for you. The software that I used has a company that they offer to host and that was who I used ($10 a month) It was an extremely easy process and I would have done this alot sooner if I would have know just how easy this was. Hope that kinda helps. Have a good one, -Charles

Nice work, Charles!

Charles,
Your web site loads really fast, even out here in the boonies where the fastest my phone line will allow is 24,400bps.
There are a lot of sites that I have to give up on because they take forever to load.

Thanks again 'heads for the nice comments. Sandy, that is wonderful. I was curious how slow it would load on different bandwidths. Thanks for letting me know.

Charles,
While the Web Design is top notch, it's the craft of lettering that has me coming back.
I always thought you were one of the best lettering artist!
Good thing you finally decided to get out of the "lettering" closet!! Keep the brushes rolling my friend!
Life is so good!

Thank you Joe and Lotti! Joe, I would greatly appreciate that as I do not have any clients at the moment. I guess we all have to start somewhere.

Love the artwork! very crisp and beautifully done; I bet it was a lot of work to get that site together, as I've never had one, just a portfolio; anyway, yours is beautiful, yes. anyway you spell it.

I struggled with my website for months and didn't have a clue but one day I just said I was going to do it and by midnight that day, I had it done. Cost me less than $100. and I know mine doesn't even come close to the one Charles created. I am going to look up the info he gave and perhaps start over. Checking out your site Charles and I love your font page. Impressive stuff!!! Greg Fairbrother www.maritimelogos.com Posted by greg fairbrother (Member # 6522) on :
