We're looking for a hand held deburring tool that would be appropriate for dressing cut aluminum edges mostly. Possibly use on plastics as well. Does anybody have a specific model or tool they particularly like to use that simply works great? I know you're out there.

If you're deburring straight edges just use a 10" mill bastard file. If you're doing holes, they make a deburring tool just for that; it has a swiveling carbide cutter. If it's an irregular shape or curves, use a jewelers file.

I just got mine at Home Depot. It works great for the sawn edges of DiBond.

I have a tungsten rotary burr that goes in a die-grinder and works well- sometimes I'll put it in a small 1/4" chuck variable-speed cheapie router, and use it the same way, except with the baseplate removed.

_Phil, here is the greatest De-Burring tool I have ever used! I don't know what its called or where to get one. My friend owns a metal fabrication shop and they use these all the time. He gave me this one when he saw using a file on a piece of aluminum. Picture shows a .040" piece of aluminum with a bur from cutting. One swipe across the edge and any bur is gone! It is adjustable. I use on .040 to 1/4" Alumalite! This tool is worth its weight in GOLD!

I have one similer to Tony and bought it at a machine shop supplier. I've used it to de burr the posts on the KillerKart which are 1/8" square, price was 10-12 bucks some time back. The hand held ones work great.

Thanks guys. I had a handle on various tools that were out there. It always makes me more comfortable when I know people are using a particular tool and get good results. It eliminates trial & error. I love this site for that reason alone. Sometimes it's just good to talk to others that share your challenges. Thanks for the web address Doug.
