Soon to be interviewing for a outside sales person. What has been the standard or average compensation package in the sign industry? Base plus Commission? Commission only? If so,whats fair? I do realize that some companies give base plus commission, then lower the base in time. Trying to find an average. Or how much? I realize experience matters. These are new canidates. I want to keep them hungary.

Any help would be great.

Hungary, Mat? I'd ask Nettie! LOL

Anyway, I thought I'd say what a very successful sign guy told me once. No one knows your product like you do... You should be out selling & having people working the shop.

My 2 Puerto/Cuban cents.

Commission only will keep them hungry enough to either do the job really well or look for sompn' else they like better. Good Luck with your choice!

Hi Matthew,
The system that works best for us is commission based on net profit. There are formulas for pricing and if a certain profit isn't met, the commission isn't paid on that sale. If the new salesmen's territory has opened accounts, there isn't a base salary. There is a monthly phone and travel allowance and once an account is open, the salesman is required to call on them about every six weeks.
This has worked well for the salesmen and our company for the past eight years.
Hope this helps.
