Hi, I have a client in need of a chalkboard a-frame. We do plenty of dry erase ones, but never a classic chalkboard. Does anyone have a supplier for good chalkboards that I could make into a nice a-frame? My client has tried the chalkboard paint and wasn't happy with it so I want to offer a higher quality option. Hiya Nicholas, You have several options. The quickest would probably be to run down to the local hardware store and get blackboard paint and roll or spray it out on your preferred smooth surface (I like 1/4" hard board) and manufacture the sign as you would normally. Or, buy some black (or green) board material. I have a sample sheet that my supplier left me, but there's no manufacturer name on it. It's about an 1/8" thick, so it may need a little more structural support than some other materials.

Benjamin Moore sells a waterbase black chalk board paint in quarts. It takes two or three thin coats and I have used it many times with excellant results. You can apply with a roller or foam brush.
Tell the customer to "size" the board first. Take a stick of chalk, hold it sideways and rub a generous amount of chalk all over the board. Wipe it clean with a dry rag.

Downunder we can get blackboard vinyl- just stick that on the metal board...
