I've never been a big fan of the theory of evolution. I've never seen the proof.... until now.

Today I was riding around the lawn on my John Deere mowing the grass when I made a startling observation. It seems the dandilions in my lawn have developed a new skill for survival. It was simply AMAZING!

The dandilions have learned to DUCK when the mower passes over head. Once I'm by and safely past they POP back up again still growing like a bad weed in the warm sunshine.

Like any scientist of good repute I had to prove my theory in a scientific way before I published my findings...

So I did some control passes on sections of lawn where there were no dandilions... and sure enough it mowed flat and true. Every single blade of grass was clipped.

With the control section of my theory well tested I went back over the part of the lawn which likes to grow dandilions and even went extra slow to make sure them pesky dandilions got clipped nice and short. Looking back all looked good. Everything was nice and even. I had shredded those nasty weeds... or so I thought.

I went around the lawn... a big piece of grass which took a while to circumvent but it didn't take long enough for these dandilions to grow back. The next pass overlapped the last one by a few inches... just like always. As I got close to the dandilion patch I was AMAZED once more for those dandilions were blooming in all their glory... leaves and all. They had ducked once more.

Well I had one more trick up my sleeve... I drove calmly by until I rounded the corner of the building. I did a quick U-turn being careful not to roll the mower... and headed back the way I had come. I made a pass at full speed and ROARED over those dandilions one last time.

This time I GOT them.

I have a new theory now. I think those dandilions did evolve over the last three years. Seems I musta mowed the lawn in the same pattern all that time and I guess the dandilions developed a defence mechanism for the benifit of their survival. They learned to DUCK when I passed.

But it seems I set them back a little in their development. I wonder just how long it will take for them to figure out I could come from any direction??

Funny thing about people and food is that those who have food growing on their property always want to get rid of it, why is that?

Whether its Dandilions, Blackberries or Wheatgrass, persons lose their imagination for life to give growth to their properties square footage, duh!

At least us Southern boys do.. Maybe growin grass in da snow lands doesn't leave much time to figure this out..

Hmmmmm,

When did we evolve so much that a plain green lawn is more appealing than one that is scattered with bright yellow flowers?
When life gives you dandilions....make wine.
I think thats how the saying goes - well at least it should be. [Wink]

Those dandilions are trying to teach you a lesson Dan....Phoebe will help. [Smile]

Dan,

If Phoebe can't help, my grandson will gladly blow little dandelion parachutes all over your property so you have some more to sneak up on! I wonder where he learned that bad habit from?
