This past week our little Phoebe decided it was time to talk. It was just quicker than constantly signing to us what she wanted and this past week it was finally time.
She has long understood every word we said to her, she just liked to communicate with sign language with what we taught her and what she invented along the way. I guess she fugured out if we were'n't looking right at her we didn't listen very good.
This morning was time for her and I to spend some time together. We were running errands and getting a load of potting soil to tuck our perennials away for the winter at Giggle Ridge.
As I drove merrily down the road with her in the back car seat she chattered to me mouthing her words with a sock puppet on her hand. We laughed and joked all the way to town and back, singing loudly to the radio when a favorite song came on.
While in town we had a wonderful lunch together in one of my favorite restaurants and enjoyed a chicken pot pie which we both enjoyed immensely! Phoebe charmed everyone around us with her huge smile.
Much of what Phoebe says is still a mystery to me, but combined with the hand gestures which she still uses we had wonderful discussions about all manners of things important to us both.
Being a grampa is ABSOLUTELY the very BEST thing EVER!!!!!!!!

I have a grandson in my lap as I try to type one handed. He speaks in a combo of Spanish, English, and heiroglypics. He's a big fan of elephants and has his plastic one in his hand right now. Did you know elephants can't type worth a flip?
In his language, an elephant is an "eh-fin". He loves Ice Age because of Manny. We tried to explain that "May-hee" is a mammoth, not an elephant. So, Manny is now an "eh-moth". Maybe little David speaks Canadian, too.
Yeah, being a grandpa is absolutely wonderful!
