Thinking of changing to both these but would value anyone's previous experience with them.

I run Mozilla Firefox and have to say I have better luck with it than IE. I do still have IE loaded for those few times it works better but way less problems with Mozilla. I made the switch and wasn't sorry I did. For me much less problems..

I dumped Firefox for it wouldn't work with some links not to mention at some point it would just not open while telling me it was running already.
I went back to IE and have not regreted it

I get the same error that Bob is talking about but I still use it. Nobody seems to be trying to exploit it's weaknesses like IE.

Been using both for about 2 years without any problems. There are a few fairly recent posts on this board that discuss good extensions to get. You can set up Firefox to display any troublesome page in IE. There are a few pages that don't work on Firefox but not many.
As for Thunderbird, no hiccups at all.

I've used Mozilla Suite for the past 5 yrs. and love it. The suite has links to their email, web browser, composer (web page creation tool), address book and IRC chat on the bottom of each window. The other thing I really enjoy is the page tabbing where I can have numerous pages open but all in the same footprint of the original window. While one is opening you are reading another - this is more important if you are on dial up.
I'll keep my opinions of MS products to myself.

Tried and it dumped it. I never have problems with IE. Those that do have problems are probably looking at sites they shouldn't be looking at and getting hacker junk.

Sounds like Mozilla is worth giving a go.
Any thoughts on the email part of it 'Thunderbird'??

I have firefox as my default web browser and use it 95% of the time it is just safer. I have had zero probelms with it and I have been using and recommending it's use for 2 years, i only use IE when I run into a site I trust and need to run an active X component. For the people that say they had problems I say try it again it is not Firefox being the problem.

Another vote for Mozilla. I use them both and have no problems. For email, I have Outlook Express on my home computer and Firefox on my office computer, and I like Firefox much better. Its earier to train it to recognize junk mail.

I have used Firefox since it was beta. I never had any problems and submitted a few ideas to the authors while it was in beta.. I feel it is one of the best pieces of software I use.. I recommend it to every one I see.
I have completly quit using Internet explorer. I have never been to a site that did not work with firefox..
There are a very few who had a problem with earlier version of firefox but those have been fixed. New updates of firefox. met the challanges.. . There are a very few sites any more that do not work, however those sites seem to be using code that does not meet standards..
Firefox usage is growing at high rates with so many giving up M$ stuff because of all the problems. For example, recent XP updates broke Internet explorer and they had to fix the fixes.. Sheesh. With firefox popups and popunders are a thing of the past.
But the best part is that firefox is nearly immune to many of those malwares that exploit explorer. I surf without fear and that means a lot to me..

Thought these might be helpful to some....
Once you spend a little time setting up Firefox you shouldn't need to go back.
I prefer them both!

Not everyone who uses firefox is a perv...
I like the tabbed browsing, it makes it easy to keep webmail, letterville, & other faves open without running several windows at once.

I use the original Mozilla, no problems and I don't update it.

I used Firefox for a while, but it kept locking up my machine after a while. It did it again after I reinstalled windows. Maybe it was a hardware problem, but it was enough to keep me from using it. I don't miss it. IE seems to work fine for me.

Firefox has been infintely more configurable than IE, it is also more stable from my experience but IE7 is out now and maybe now that they are adopting/modifying some ideas from Firefox and others the playing field might change. For my money FF has the drop. Thunderbird just works without the singing and dancing of the MS products, if you need a calendar then you'll have to wait, it's still in the works and not a priority it seems. Ask your tech what he uses and why, it'll probably be gmail and/or Mozilla.
