since iam just gettin over a bout of bladder cancer, you might want to read this! #1. 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated.
(Likely applies to half the world population.)
2. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak
that it is mistaken for hunger.
3. Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as much as 3%.
4. One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs
for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University of
Washington study.
#5. Lack of water, the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.
6. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of
water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain
for up to 80% of sufferers.
7. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term
memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on
the computer screen or on a printed page.
#8. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of
colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast
cancer by 79%., and one is 50% less likely to develop
bladder cancer. Are you drinking the amount of water
you should drink every day?
COKE
#1. In many states the highway patrol carries
two gallons of Coke in the trunk to remove blood from
the highway after a car accident.
#2. You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of Coke
and it will be gone in two days.
#3. To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the
toilet bowl and let the "real thing" sit for one hour,
then flush clean. The citric acid in Coke removes
stains from vitreous china.
#4. To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers:
Rub the bumper with a rumpled-up piece of Reynolds
Wrap aluminum foil dipped in Coca-Cola.
#5. To clean corrosion from car battery terminals: Pour
a can of Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble
away the corrosion.
#6. To loosen a rusted bolt: Apply a cloth soaked in Coca-Cola
to the rusted bolt for several minutes.
#7. To bake a moist ham: Empty a can of Coca-Cola into the baking
pan,
wrap the ham in aluminum foil, and bake.
Thirty minutes before ham is finished, remove the foil,
allowing the drippings to mix with the Coke for a sumptuous brown
gravy.
#8. To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of Coke
into the load of greasy clothes, add detergent, and run
through a regular cycle. The Coca-Cola will help loosens grease
stains
It will also clean road haze from your windshield.
;FOR YOUR INFORMATION:
#1 the active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid.
It will dissolve a nail in about four days. Phosphoric
acid also leaches calcium from bones and is a major
contributor to the rising increase of osteoporosis.
#2. To carry Coca-Cola syrup (the concentrate) the
commercial trucks must use a hazardous Material place
cards reserved for highly corrosive materials.
#3. The distributors of Coke have been using it to clean
engines of the trucks for about 20 years!
Now the question is, would you like a glass of water?
> > > >or Coke? IN ADDITION TO THESE: when i worked at NAPA auto parts, we had a machine shop. guys would bring in complete junk yard motors, wanting them rebuilt. most of these were locked up(meaning the crank/pistons would not move)the old shop guy, would take a can of the old regular coke, at room temp, pull out a spark plug, fill the cyinder with the coke, replace spark plug. would do this to all cylinders. now he would leave it sit for 3-4 days, then he would take a socket and a big bar to the crnkshaft bolt, and the motor would turn freely!!!!! the power of coke!!!

lot better sue, but 2 weeks of doin nothing makes you have less stamina to work. will take a couple weeks to get body back to normal. also i havent drank a COKE or PEPSI for the last 15-16 years. when i quit, i was doin close to 24 a week. my parents bought a grocery store in 1950. so i had been drinking cokes since then. as a child i had developed terrible stomach aches that would last for 12-18 hours. and they did all the tests but nothing wrong. also had the tests done while i was in the air force. i could not eat with out drinking a coke, and if i did i always wound up with this terible stomach ache. in later years i found out that by drinking 1/2 gal of pineapple/orange juice it would make the pain go away. i was plagued by this these till my mid 30's. and after that i still had some short term stomach aches while still doin the COKE. since i dont drink it any more ....no problems....

Most of the fatter persons i know all drink diet coke which also has Aspartame in it, a sweetener supposably found to cause cancer. Well, something else that causes cancer, no big deal to the many who also eat potato chips and ruffles or whatever chip you consume, chips contain monosodium glutamate you know MSG, all really good stuff for you as you say with the smirk across your face.
My main consumption of liquid is water and never drink any pop or soda whether Coke, Pepsi or any of them as they all contains high frucose corn syrup which is cheaper then sugar for the manufacturers and a great fattening agent as well as cancer causing. I just waive all those particulars which doesn't do a thing for me as well as beer which is more liquid crap. Water is life, tastes great, less filling. It I want to get a buzz, a little bit of herb goes a long way
I have my vices and may die of lung cancer or heart disease like the rest of us but I won't touch certain things which is deemed valuable by persons who haven't a clue to reality just because the authorities say its legal and wtf is it any of their business anyway'
Oh well, its 1PM and I've already polished off a gallon of Penta

Thought I'd add this to Joe's post for another info stand point in regards to a product called
WD-40
The product began from a search for a rust preventative solvent and de-greaser to protect missile parts. WD-40 was created in 1953 by three technicians at the San Diego Rocket Chemical Company. It's name comes from the project that was to find a "water displacement" compound. They were successful with the fortieth formulation, thus WD-40.
The Corvair Company bought it in bulk to protect their Atlas missile parts. The workers were so pleased with the product, they began smuggling (also known as "shrinkage" or "stealing") it out to use at home. The executives decided there might be a consumer market for it and put it in aerosol cans. The rest, as they say, is history.
It is a carefully guarded recipe known only to four people. Only one of them is the "brew master." There are about 2.5 million gallons of the stuff manufactured each year. It gets it's distinctive smell from a fragrance that is added to the brew. Ken East says there is nothing in WD-40 that would hurt you.
Here are some of the uses:
Protects silver from tarnishing
Cleans and lubricates guitar strings
Gets oil spots off concrete driveways
Gives floors that 'just-waxed' sheen without making it slippery
Keeps flies off cows
Restores and cleans chalkboards
Removes lipstick stains
Loosens stubborn zippers
Untangles jewelry chains
Removes stains from stainless steel sinks
Removes dirt and grime from the barbecue grill
Keeps ceramic/terra cotta garden pots from oxidizing
Removes tomato stains from clothing
Keeps glass shower doors free of water spots
Camouflages scratches in ceramic and marble floors
Keeps scissors working smoothly
Lubricates noisy door hinges on vehicles and doors in homes
Gives a children's play gym slide a shine for a super fast slide
Lubricates gear shift and mower deck lever for ease of handling on riding mowers
Rids rocking chairs and swings of squeaky noises
Lubricates tracks in sticking home windows and makes them easier to open
Spraying an umbrella stem makes it easier to open and close
Restores and cleans padded leather dashboards in vehicles, as well as vinyl bumpers
Restores and cleans roof racks on vehicles
Lubricates and stops squeaks in electric fans
Lubricates wheel sprockets on tricycles, wagons and bicycles for easy handling
Lubricates fan belts on washers and dryers and keeps them running smoothly
Keeps rust from forming on saws and saw blades, and other tools
We're not through. Here's more:
Removes splattered grease on stove
Keeps bathroom mirror from fogging
Lubricates prosthetic limbs
Keeps pigeons off the balcony (they hate the smell)
Removes all traces of duct tape
I have even heard of folks spraying it on their arms, hands, knees, etc., to relieve arthritis pain.
One fellow claims spraying it on fishing lures attracts fish.
WD-40 has been designated the "official multi-purpose problem-solver of NASCAR," a ringing endorsement if there ever was one.
In celebration of their 50th year, the company conducted a contest to learn the favorite uses of it's customers and fan club members. (Yes, there is a WD-40 Fan Club.)
They compiled the information to identify the favorite use in each of the 50 states. Naturally, I was curious about Georgia and Alabama, and found the favorite use in both states was that it "penetrates stuck bolts, lug nuts, and hose ends."
Florida's favorite use was "cleans and removes love bugs from grills and bumpers".
California's favorite use was penetrating the bolts on the Golden Gate Bridge.
Let me close with one final, wonderful use. The favorite use, in the State of New York: WD-40 protects the Statue of Liberty from the elements.
No wonder they have had over 50 successful years.
THE OTHER HALF OF WHAT YOU NEED TO FIX ANYTHING IS DUCT TAPE
If it doesn't move and it should, use WD--40.
If it moves, when it shouldn't, use Duct tape.

Joe...I don't want to burst your bubble..but there is this plant (vegetable type/not manufacturing type), it's name is Canola.
Canola oil is extracted from the seeds of this plant, kinda like Soy oil is extracted from Soya beans.
Try doing a search on the subject before you make an absolutely inaccurate statement like you did.
in the late 1970s, using a technique of genetic manipulation involving seed splitting,2 Canadian plant breeders came up with a variety of rapeseed that produced a monounsaturated oil low in 22-carbon erucic acid and high in 18-carbon oleic acid.
The new oil referred to as LEAR oil, for Low Erucic Acid Rapeseed, was slow to catch on in the US. In 1986, Cargill announced the sale of LEAR oil seed to US farmers and provided LEAR oil processing at its Riverside, North Dakota plant but prices dropped and farmers took a hit.3
Marketing LEAR
Before LEAR oil could be promoted as a healthy alternative to polyunsaturated oils, it needed a new name. Neither "rape" nor "lear" could be expected to invoke a healthy image for the new "Cinderella" crop. In 1978, the industry settled on "canola," for "Canadian oil," since most of the new rapeseed at that time was grown in Canada.
"Canola" also sounded like "can do" and "payola," both positive phrases in marketing lingo. However, the new name did not come into widespread use until the early 1990s.
An initial challenge for the Canola Council of Canada was the fact that rapeseed was never given GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe) status by the US Food and Drug Administration. A change in regulation would be necessary before canola could be marketed in the US.4 Just how this was done has not been revealed, but GRAS status was granted in 1985, for which, it is rumored; the Canadian government spent $50 million to obtain.
Like all fats and oils, rapeseed oil has industrial uses. It can be used as an insecticide, a lubricant, a fuel and in soap, synthetic rubber and ink. Like flax oil and walnut oil, it can be used to make varnish. Traditional fats like coconut oil, olive oil and tallow also have industrial uses, but that does not make them dangerous for human consumption.
Just more crap all of our governments allow through their agencies so they can make extra money at our expence. We're not monkeys, we're guinea pigs!

Posted by Mike Pipes (Member # 1573) on :
I laugh every time I see that stuff about Coke resurface.
First off, much of it is false.
Second, the acids in your stomach are strong enough to break down that t-bone steak in a matter of minutes. Soda pales in comparison.
I stick mostly to water but I do drink a soda once or twice a week. I steer clear of Gatorade and other sports sugar drinks - instead I use no-sugar electrolyte powders in my water that contain Vit C (one full gram), B1, B2, B3, B6, B12, Follic acid, Potassium, Magnesium, Calcium, Zinc, Manganese and Chromium.
I drink a gallon+ of water every day, plus I'll drink a 16oz glass of iced tea for antioxidants usually around lunchtime then another 16oz glass of fresh-squeezed lemonade at dinner then another 32oz of water right before bed to guarantee an early rise to the next day.
I also know my body's hydration level - right at 50% which is what's recommended for someone my size, weight and body fat content.

brian, the causation i get from each doctor i talk to is CIGARETTES... anytime i see a new doctor about the bladder cancer, his 1st question is "are you still smoking?" and i quit smoking at 42. now since i have this and i stoped smoking almost 20 yrs ago, iam hard pressed to belive that all the smoking i did is still affecting my body. and the other thing smoking usually takes a big toll on is youre lungs. well you know in the hospitals they stick a thing on youre finger to monitor youre blood oxygen level. mine will stay at 98-99 constantly. aperently i got all my lung use back since i quit. iam also of the thinking smoking is not the only way youre body gets carcinigens. we live in an older house(1961)and all the water pipes here are galvinized steel. well ours our mostly rust inside. to make galvanized i thinkits combination of lead and zinc electricly bonded to the steel, i could be wrong. but HEAVY METALS are really bad for the body....LEAD, its been removed from paint and solder. so i installed a reverse osmosis sytem under the sink since i had this reoccurance. see if that helps.

Here's the snopes story on the coke story:
Nearly all carbonated soft drinks contain carbonic acid, which is moderately useful for tasks such as removing stains and dissolving rust deposits (although plain soda water is much better for some of these purposes than Coca-Cola or other soft drinks, as it doesn't leave a sticky sugar residue behind). Carbonic acid is relatively weak, however, and people have been drinking carbonated water for many years with no detrimental effects.
The rest of the claims offered here are specious. Coca-Cola does contain small amounts of citric acid and phosphoric acid; however, all the insinuations about the dangers these acids might pose to people who drink Coca-Cola ignore a simple concept familiar to any first-year chemistry student: concentration. Coca-Cola contains less citric acid than orange juice does, and the concentration of phosphoric acid in Coke is far too small (a mere 11 to 13 grams per gallon of syrup, or about 0.20 to 0.30 per cent of the total formula) to dissolve a steak, a tooth, or a nail overnight. (Much of the item will dissolve eventually, but after a day or two you'll still have most of the tooth, a whole nail, and one very soggy t-bone.)
Besides, the gastric acid in your stomach is much stronger than any of the acids in Coca-Cola, so the Coca-Cola is harmless.
The next time you're stopped by a highway patrolman, try asking him if he's ever scrubbed blood stains off a highway with Coca-Cola (or anything else). If you're lucky, by the time he stops laughing he'll have forgotten about the citation he was going to give you.
But drinking more water sure does help reduce back pain & fatigue & clears the head.
Posted by Dave Sherby (Member # 698) on :
Ian, you are right about your stomach acid being stronger than soda pop, but explain this.
I worked in a grocery store when I was in high school in the days before 2 liter bottles. The majority of soda pop was sold in glass bottles. The store I worked in was a very busy store so the sodda pop section was quite large. You can't stock that much pop, and not break some bottles.
Well one day the store manager decided it was time to empty the entire display for some routine cleaning. A pertinent part of this story was that he was a firm believer in not changing around displays so the Coke, 7 UP, Pepsi, and RC were always in the same section.
We emptied the shelves which were those typical painted steel shelving units, one shelf a few inches above the floor, then the pop in 8 paks was stacked about 6 high.
About 40% of the paint was eaten off of the Coke section. Every other part of the shelves holding every other brand of soda pop looked like new albeit a little stained from pop, but those areas cleaned up to look like new. The Coke shelf had to be replaced. The manager said it was like that every time they emptied it.

I've heard burping releases endorphins, and must admit I get a good feeling from a belch.
My pop told me a great story along this line.
When he was working as a foreman in a waxed paper plant, there was a rumor going around that if you put a nail in a bottle of coke, it would dissolve it. After talking about a while, one of the guys there wanted to see if it was true, so he dropped a nail into a bottle, snapped the cap back on it and put it up on a shelf in the break room.
The next weekend when no one was around, my dad went down to the machine shop of the plant, got some fine grindings, replaced the nail with the dust and put the bottle back.
A couple weeks passed and he reminded the guy of the experiment. The guy never drank Coke again and told people everywhere about how it ate the nail. He told people at church, his neighbors, and went to his grave believing Coke would dissolve a nail.
Another story of his that usually accompanies the nail story is about his neighbor and the prototype 100 mpg carburetor. The neighbor bought a new car and was bragging about the gas mileage, so they thought they'd help him out.
They added some gas to his tank everyday so that he thought he was getting crazy gas mileage... until he took it in for a tune up at which point, they stopped adding the gas. The guy got furious with the mechanic and swore there was a special prototype carburetor that somehow got out of the lab into that car and the mechanic must have switched it.
Again went to his grave holding a grudge against the mechanic.

Then I would just be a grumpy old fart that nobody wanted to talk to, insted of a happy old fart that SOME people don't want to talk to.

A friend of mine, vegitarian by choice, always said " it's not what you eat that's going to kill you, it's what's eating you that's going to kill you". Dehydration, easily preventable, keep a bottle of water with you no matter where you go. Make it part of your routine. Moderation is what it's all about. A Coke or two a day is not going to amount to much, unless it's the big gulp 25 OZ size we are talking about. Most pop drinkers that start their day with a big pop, instead of breakfast, tend to be on the heavier side. Correlation? Probably. Mythbusters did dispell almost all those myths about Coke, but we like our folklore don't we? Smoking, go ahead, smoke all you want, just not around me please. Hey, it just means more pension money for the rest of us, that's all. My father died from emphasema, amongst other problems. Rolled his own smokes for years, drum tobacco. He even let us kids roll a few for him the odd time, cool hey? What a slow and miserable way to go, it slowly restricts you as to what you can do, because you just cant get any more air into your system. You know tomorrow will not ne any better. My father inlaw is struggling with it too. A flight of stairs just about does him in.
If it's something you enjoy, then enjoy it. But if it's something you cant do without, or simply cant get enough of, or worst case you really need it, got to have it, cant make it through the day without it, it's time to re-evaluate your priorities. Whos is in charge? You, or what you are consuming?
In the movie the Matrix, humans were reduced to no more than a source of electricity, batteries to be exact. My way of thinking we are more likely carbon lifeform filters for our planet. Our purpose is to absorb as much of the 'nasties' as possible before we die, to render them harmless for mother earth herself.
Some of us are just better filters than others.

A friend of mine, vegitarian by choice, always said " it's not what you eat that's going to kill you, it's what's eating you that's going to kill you". i like that one and its true, as to youre mental state. positive thinking people tend to be happier, less ill, and seem to go about their life without gettin upset at the small bumps and turns that some people just get more angry and dwell on the bad parts of it. my favorite line similar to the one you stated: "you are what you eat" in reality i take it to the next step.............."you are what you dont excret." is more like it. youre body will keep only what it needs and some of the bad things you put in are to get rid of. good example is the PROTIEN MYTH. look at the RDA for amount of protien you need, and then look at how much you consume. and what aint used by the body......is disposed of.

OP, you might enjoy the book The Maker's Diet, by Jordan Rubin.
Basicly going back to the Biblical principles of eating. It's not vegetarian, but makes very valid points on why certain foods are not meant to be eaten (i.e. shellfish, pork, pasturaized/homogenized milk).
Be well, A:)
