I'm wanting to send bigger files to my print wholesaler. I'm looking for recommendations for a good upload site. I'm not interested in using an FTP site. Anyone using an upload site? Thanks.

What's the difference between an "upload" site and an FTP site? I thought they were the same.

Makes sense to me if the "wholesaler" wants this type of business, they would setup their own FTP which would simplify things tremendously for everyone.
FTP is the way to go. Any other type of upload just doesn't have the speed required for large files, except for a direct pipeline which is expensive.

O.K. Mike, I'll bite. Which FTP site would you recommend? How, exactly, do they work? Thanks.

I don't have any recommendations for other hosts. I host my own FTP as do most of the companies I deal with on a regular basis. If you have a website already you already have FTP abilities, you just need a new login for the people you wish to grant access.

.....and if you're just sending files, nobody needs "accesss" to receive them. Just compress & save files, or folders as a .zip file placed loose on your web server & they can point browser to: www.your.com/filename.zip & the file starts downloading.

FTP will still go faster than downloading through a web browser. Both are limited to maximum speeds but FTP is designed for larger file transfer therefore the protocol allows for faster transfers.
I have FTP access to several magazines and it makes things much nicer.

ok... I see, as the sender, my upload to my own server through ftp is already good technology for efficient upload speed for me... but having them dl through the browser is slow & inefficient for them.
If that matters to me, like if it is a vendor I do repeat business with...
...can I have a specific folder that only contains files I choose to make available?
Then the password I set & provide to my vendor will speed up the dl for them, without giving them access to my entire website?

Yep you just give them a login and password and they'll be able to access only the folder you want them to.

Yes you can give them a folder in your website like www.your.com/VendorX and put the files there. Nobody else will ever know. In many publically available FTP sites you can use "anonymous" for a login name and then use your emal address for a password. I don't know if you can set up your own site like that.

One of my clients sent me a 200mb file through yousendit.com and it downloaded incredibly fast.
It definately left a positive impression on me and I'd use the service myself to send large files to clients.
