My chief supplier, SSK, is not gonna carry Oracal vinyl anymore. Im not sure why this decision was made, but its disheartening. I buy almost 95% of my supplies from them, and use Oracal for everything I do. And them being only three hours from me, I could get stuff next day. I like Oracal, and am gonna continue to use it like I have been. Now I gotta go hunt another supplier.

What are they replacing it with?

Ameriban Carries Oracal. Thats who we buy it from.Plus Free Shipping on orders over $75. That goes along way with us as Shipping can eat our lunch on some items. We use to use SSK also but to far for us now.

Ameriban (now called Fellers) will give me free shipping on anything over $50. I bet you could get the same deal if you ask.

OP - I've been skittish to give the "Shinerite" a try yet as it's only 2 bucks cheaper per 24" roll than 651. . .I have a swatchbook of it somewhere but caint put my finger on it at the moment - my first impression from the swatchbook was it's thickness - -; I unnerstand your frustration with the 651 although to me it's the best thing going - they have recently up-graded the lifespan of it to 6 years - however don't expect that from the 021 yewwlow; I have noticed better lifespan out of their 031 Red - it used to suck only 2-3 yrs. in harsh sun - much better now - I've got a few local 5 yr. signs here in 031 red that still look fresh - if ya gotta use Oracal Yellow I've found the 025 Brimstone Yellow to hold up much better - not to mention seems thinner as well & much more visible - will be cruisen thru Pensacola next month - I'm gonna keep my eye peeled for the purple & yellow truck . . . . EDITED TO ADD: Don't git me started on Fellers - they are one of my "Hero" companies - never let me down - I guess I'm fortunate to live only 15 minutes away from their Memphis location - have never had to pay ANY shipping as I always pick-up, when they have to ship my stuff from Oklahoma City or St. Louis they just put it in with their other freight - never over 3 days for anything I've ordered - nitpick - they should advertise here - yea I'm guilty I need to send in my dues as well . . .

I just cant bring myself to try a vinyl called Shinerite OP. Sounds like furniture polish, and a cheap one at that. Oracal 651 is the best intermediate on the market in my opinion, and 751 and 851 are great HPs.

I agree John. Never had a failure with any Oracal or Gerber vinyl.

I do like that Oracal 651...
Brimstone yellow kicks butt. I don't know what it is about the stuff but when you apply it over a dark color, the yellow keeps its color. It gets just a teeny weeny bit darker but hardly any difference at all and not enough to make a completely different color like the other brand films.

well..i HAVE USED BOTH SHINE-RITE AND 651...and the differance is so big...I WILL NOT BUY ANY 651 FOR ANYTHING....651 is like the clear packaging that comes on things you buy AND YOU HAVE TO FIGHT TO GET OPEN... a 15"x 10 yrd of SHINE RITE wont break youre bank......i was VERY SKEPTICAL AT 1ST..... and now i have 24"x50 yrd rolls of RED, dont seem to have nay fade, BLUE really bright & shiny. GREEN ive got tree trucks with must be 4-5 rolls on em...AND NO COMPLAINTS. ORANGE IS TENN ORANGE...now the yellows arent to impressive....BURGANDY & TEAL are brillient.... black and white are great.......if i never tried SHINERITE....i guess i could live with 651....but shinerite is so much more plyable...makes 651 look like cardboard...

I have to chime in and support OP on this one. I've used the Shine Rite for over a year and Oracal 651 before that for several years. There is **NO** comparison and I'll never buy another roll of Oracal. If you ever weeded Shinerite you'd know what OP and me are talking about. It might be less expensive (it's not imported from Germany) but don't take that to mean that it's not good; it's awesome! Say what you want but pretty much our entire franchise uses this stuff. Very rarely do I endorse a product so heartily; it has my backing 100%.

No doubt you and OP had good results with it Ricky. I read some other reports on another board that were entirely different. One thing that bothers me is the "up to 6 years" durability. That could be one day to 6 years. Oracal 651 has a 6 year guarantee on it, not up to it. I havent had any problems like OP has with Oracal, just the opposite. I did a truck with 651 four years ago, and it hasnt shrunk one millimeter. Other stuff I have done is the same way. Ill agree, it aint the best weeding stuff there is, but it has other perks that outweigh that. And if Im not mistaken, someone said it had avery backing paper on it. Ill stick with the Oracal. Its good stuff, at least for me. Posted by old paint (Member # 549) on :
the only DOWNSIDE to shinerite....DO NOT LET YOURE WEEDED VINYL TOUCH THE VINYL YOU ARE SAVING FOR THE SIGN....shinerite has VERY AGGRESSIVE GLUE!!!!!!!! and trust me and ricky...we been usein this stuff last couple years....and again if youre used to oracal....you will love SHINRITE... this stuff has a better/just as good shine.... and the backin paper has NO NAME ON IT!!!! and i have YET to have a problem....john my TREE SERVICE TRUCKS(over $2000 R.T.A.)are havin no problems.....

Guyz, just call them on the shipping issue and Fellers is the best.. Take it from a small time vinyl buyer.. they even hooked me up withthe 50 dollar deal. All I had to do was ask!
