Where we live we can't have a sign for our home based business so we came up with this idea.
Over the years many of our readers at AutoArt Magazine have customized their envelopes when they have sent them in. So we thought it only fitting to have a mail receptacle suitable to receive their creations. The box is constructed of a large metal mailbox and MDO Plywood. I custom painted and airbrushed it to resemble an early Panel Delivery Street Rod sitting on a rock pedestal. It has reflective lettering for easy viewing at night. That is AWESOME Bob. I love it. I have an old International Metro from the 40's that I hope to redo as soon as my house is finished. It would make a cool looking mailbox too.

As kool as it is, it still looks like a sign on the road to me. We've made several mail box covers for that purpose Bob, but this one pushes the limit farther than I've dared going. Hope they let you keep it.

I have to agree with Si, Dan is sure to come up with something equally amazing using his MultiCam.
Anyone else have interesting looking mailboxes, either done for themselves or others? I'm sure there are many here who would love to see them!

Unfortunately, that would be a trophy target for some ball-bat weilding kid around our area.
Every metal mailbox for miles around has been totaled. Is yours made out of thick gauge steel?
My Rubbermaid mailbox has been up for several years now....and all the neighbors (the smart ones) are going to these because they're about indestructable.
The worst that has happened to my Rubbermaid is what appears to be an target arrow hole in the side....but she's still standing.
I have one neighbor that hasn't figured it out yet...and they're metal box gets crushed in and knocked off it's mount weekly....they keep putting it back up??!
Edit: Oh, it did obviously get clobbered one night...because there was a scuff mark on the side and the door was laying on the ground...knocked out of it's pinholes...but I just picked it up and snapped it back into place....no harm done.

With the new gate now up its time for a mailbox here for the weekly papers. As you can imagine it won't be ordinary looking.
I will put it off the road a little ways to lessen its desireability as a target for folks who get a chuckle out of senselessly destroying things.
And Doug is right... it will be a job for the plasma cutter to make it a little more durable.

We don't have cubside mail boxes here. BUT ...if we did, I would make one that was very flimsy looking, but out of steel and concrete!
I would alsio set up a camera and flash to get the look on that vandal's face when he takes a swat at it!

Thanks gang for the good words. I had a blast doing it. When we moved here I made a mailbox similar to it and that one grew legs and walked away one night, post and all. Surprisingly two days later it was returned and laid on our lawn. The first one didn't last very long b/c I didn't construct it very well so I redid it as a Model A woody station wagon with the cartoons of myself, Josh & Becky (as seen on the page). It contained my address number and website but that's all. This time when I redid it I added a little more. The Woody mailbox had been up for the past three years without any complaints or damage (knock on wood).
I've gone further than a "two fer", I've sent copies to about 50 magazines and if they all publish a little blurb, that could lead to millions of people seeing my humble little sign out front.
No orders yet, waiting for the right customer to call and want one. I too would like to see what others here have come up with for their mailbox.
