hi folks! i recently upgraded to the corel x3 and now i seem to be getting these vertical hairlines in my interactive drop shadow...i tried messing with the dpi output but that didn't help. i am viewing in enhance screen...can't really think of anything i'm doing different...wondering if anyone has experienced this??? and i'm hoping of course its some silly setting that needs adjusting. thanks in advance!

Did you try separating the shadow group from the object........and is there still the same problem? I have found things seem to get a lot better once "groups" are separated.

It's referred to as VOS. Vertical Offset Syndrome and is caused by errant martian frequency waves from the planet Uronathinropia.
Oh hell I have no idea what it is Karyn. Every now and then I have something strange happen but if I delete it and try again it works itself out.

i will try that deri...i think i end up grouping stuff because when i shrink it down to print it the shadows stay true. i'm thinking i would like to take some kind of corel bootcamp...there's so many little things like this i'm sure i don't know! lol bob...that works alot for me too.

I sent a file away to be printed on a Versacamm created the same way and had the dreaded vertical lines. They do not show in the file before printing.

OK I been thinking about this. It's a possibility it has something to do with Fountain steps. Fountain steps are the number of steps a gradient takes to form its graduation. Lets say you go from black on the right hand side to white on the left. The number of fountain steps increased means there will be less "bands" of colour, the lower the setting the more "banding" will occur. There are places in your printer settings which you can change the number of steps this takes. Generally I have mine set at 256, but.....if you have a large bitmap/ or gradient that you want a smoother transformation, you increase the fountain steps. The only thing is that the more fountain steps you set it to the larger your file will be. Check that out Karyn, maybe you need to increase that.

What if you make the shadow a bitmap by separating it from the initial part? Select the shadow Cntrl + K, I think!

Karen, You can also try exporting the file as a TIF or JPG, then printing. I've had issues like this with photoshop files and flattening the image eliminated the problem - most of the time.

Hi Karyn try this, break apart the drop shadow save and close the drawing then reopen see if this fixes the problem.

i'm going to look into the fountain thing. you can save as a bitmap and bring it back and its still there...that's not it. i can see the lines when i zoom up close...thats when i know. i'll keep messing around with it today...cause i need to get a file right for print tomorrow...so today will be the day i need to solve this...i may just have to use another way because i need the vector lines anyhoo on this particular job...but i really want to figure it out because i use that interactive shadow on alot of my banners.

I can reproduce the problem Karyn, I think they're screen phantoms, they seem to appear and disappear as I zoom in and out, and if I drag the shadow left or right they don't seem to stay in a constant position relative to the shadow. They don't seem to appear in print preview, and don't appear in laser print.
Have you printed yet, do they appear in print? I'll tuck one at the edge of a roland print later today.

Karyn I did not say save as a bitmap, I tried it last night and what I said did work for me did you "seperate" (click on the interactive drop shadow then click arrange and then Break drop shadow group apart)the drop shadow apart from the lettering? then "save" the change and close the drawing down? Then when you reopen the graphic it should be better? Next question what kind of video card are you running in your PC do you have the latest video card driver? updateing you video card may help I know in the past CorelDraw was very video card intensive.
Could you send me a copy of the file so I can see for myself what is going on when I recreated the vertical line problem last night on my PC it was not even near as bad as what you are showing so I would like to see if it is the file or the PC.
