Man this looks like a great meet...and you get in FREE too! I wish I could make it but I can't promise anything. Looks like my summer will be spent painting the walls of a car wash...oh and I have a barn coming up too! Just wanted to give you a bump. Love....Jill

I'd really like to attend my first walldog meet but I can't commit yet. My youngest daughter is due July 8th but she usually goes 2 weeks over. She thinks that she is going to go early this time.
I just have to wait to commit until we are a little closer.

The Diazes will be there in force...Bill, Jane, Ben, Joe and Ben's girlfriend Ashley. Looking forward to it! Staying the dorm, painting walls and listening to stories! Doesn't get much better than that!
Posted by Dale Manor (Member # 4858) on :
I'm coming down for this one too....I better show up, I have a wall to paint. After Lodi I will probably be painting squiggly line all over everything!
I'll bring the iPod Concertina box and my entourage.
If you haven't been to a Walldog meet already this will be a great event...come on down and sling some paint!
Kansas.....what's your 20 girl? You gonna make it?
Mr. Tickle, come on up, You can help me move!
see you there!

Thanks for following up guys. Some registrations have begun to trickle in. I hope rest will follow soon.
Dale, Kansas will return to AMP for another summer. We have already planned on closing up shop for a couple days and bringing the whole crew down. Our crew consistes of Sarah, Beth, Kansas, Nathan(our new assistant)Scott(helped me paint the big Abe in Lincoln) and myself. We might have another 2 painters with us as well.
Sarah has a couple set designers an scenic painting students at here school that have expressed interest in comming but they are not for sure yet.
The list keeps growing. Which is good because there will be a lot of painting going on.

I am planning on attending my first meet ever! I have to come because the 23rd is my birthday. This will be my present to myself. I haven't sent in my form yet so I better get to it. Can't wait to meet everyone and share stories. Jacksonville is only about 1 and 1/2 hours from my shop. Looks like it will be a blast.
Sign-cerely, Steve Luck

I've got the same answer as Dale Manor... I've got a wall to paint, so I better be there as well. We're at peak busy season right now, so I've barely had time to breathe, let alone think beyond what's due up next in the shop!
I've been putting together Brush Bash 2 information and planning as well, so I've got a full plate... it's coming up quick.

Here is some more srtwork that has come in. Dave Petri will be heading up the General grierson project and has put togethor his first sketches for the wall.
The more the merrier. Lets keep registrants comming in.

Hey Miles,
It'll be great to meet you down in Jacksonville. I was down there a couple of weeks ago and it looks like a nice little downtown area. Having just returned from Lodi, I can't wait to head off to the next Walldoggin' event and make some more memories! Come on by my wall and I'll have a brush ready for ya.
To all visitors to the board....If you didn't or couldn't make it to Lodi, here's your chance to join in on another great Walldog event. Come on down and meet some fellow Letterhead's at what is sure to be a great get-together.
see you there!

I spent yesterday in J-ville doing some more organizational stuff. This meet is getting better and better everyday. I want to make sure everyone knows a couple things.
#1 The Dorms. You will need to bring your own bedding. We have an entire dorm at McMurray College, Which is located about 3 blocks from the mural sites. I have also been informed that every dorm room is equiped witha broadband connection. There is no wireless connection in the building but you have wired conection. So those of you with laptops bring a ethernet cable.
#2 Arrivals. Sarah is trying to keep track of who is comming and when. This will help us out with getting food and lodging squared away. If you are flying in make sure we know when you are getting in so I can make plans to pick you up.
#3 Our home base for the week will be the Jacksonville Theater Guild. For registration and meals this will be the meeting spot. I will get a map posted soon so everyone can get where you need to be.
#4 Schedule. The schedule is being put togethor in J-ville as we speek. The fianl version should be posted by the 15th.
With all that said keep us posted and we will do the same.
Remember: Jacksonville, IL if you are going to Florida pick me up a souvineer.

Posted by Jane Diaz (Member # 595) on :
Just so people know (there were a few people that didn't understand a few years ago in Lincoln when we stayed at the dorms) there is nothing in your dorm room but a bed. You need to bring, sheets, blankets, pillows, towels, whatever you normally might need to sleep. This is not a motel with all that and some people had to make a quick trip to Wal-mart to buy what they needed. Another thing many forgot is a jacket or sweatshirt. I KNOW it's June, but we do get some cold evenings, sometimes.
Sorry, it's the Mom in me. I have to make sure everyone has what they need! LOOKING FORWARD to seeing everyone!
Posted by Dale Manor (Member # 4858) on :
I will try and bring a couple extra sleeping bags and pillows for those flying in. But do toss a towel and washcloth in your bag before you come over.
see you there!
Posted by Jane Diaz (Member # 595) on :
I'll bring extra bedding & towels too, in case anyone need it. (Good idea, Dale!)
Posted by FranCisco Vargas (Member # 145) on :
Jane, glad you mentioned that, it does take up alot of luggage space. I was going to ask if anyone had some extra sheets and blankets, pillow doesn't need to be fancy or new to donate for that weekend?? I can bring wash cloths and towels.

Posted by Jane Diaz (Member # 595) on :
He means "pimp" like give people a hard time, pimp them. No, that's not what I meant...like make them the brunt of a joke, like Aston K. does on that show where they call it "PUNKED". Not pimp like a purple fedora with a feather in it and a mink coat.....well, you know.

What tools/supplies should I bring? This is my first "Official" meet (no offense Bill and Jane Diaz) and I really don't know what I will be doing or where I can contribute. Dave Utter was very helpful at Bill and Jane's mini-meet, but it looks like he's got his project allready started. How do you decide who helps who and where? I'm really excited to get to go since I live within driving distance.
I plan on coming in Friday morning to help, so a check list would be great. Thanks for your friendly support. I'll be looking for an update here or hopefully someone can email me directly.
Sign-cerely, Steve
Posted by Dale Manor (Member # 4858) on :
Hi Steve,
Not sure if anyone else wrote to you but....
I would suggest bringing any fitches that you might like to use. I will be bringing down some extra brushes, kind of old and beat up, but they usually get the job done. Not sure what others are using for paint, but I'll be using one-shot lettering enamel on The Big Eli project. Usually the lifts and scaffolding are provided. Projectors are nice to have but I am bringing my own down. I guess you can bring whatever you feel might be helpful on a large wall project, or just bring yourself.
For the Walldog meets I have been fortunate enough to attend, I tend to migrate towards the wall that needs the most work or has the least amount of helpers on it. It's kind of up to you as to how much or how little you would like to do or how many projects you want to try your hand at. I have a ton of work to do on my wall and probably won't be sleeping much. If you'd like to help on my wall come on over, I have work for all levels of experience.
I'm going to be loading up the truck later today and heading down to Jacksonville tomorrow morning. If anyone needs a ride between Menomonie, and Springfield, Il let me know.
Looking forward to another great meet! See you all there. If you have any questions give me a call.
Dale

I am writing for Bill as he is busily getting ready... He says fitches are important. They are the best for those brick and block walls, or the outdoor stuff. I think even housepainter brushes work to paint in large areas of color on some murals. I think some of these walls are going to be done inside, on panels and installed later so regular quills and flats work there. I think there is also a panel jam area, so if you want to get in on that, bring those brushes. As far as other supplies: sunscreen will probably be essential, a big brimmed hat? rubber gloves, maulstick if you use one, camera, lawn chair, sheets & towels for your dorm room, and someone suggested FANS so it doesn't sound like there is air-co. As far as where to work, we ALL want you!! When we attend a walldog, we usually jump around and work at different walls. I think that is what is so great about these meets. You get to try different media (some walls are oil-base, some are latex), different styles (some murals are really basic, paint in this area with this color and others are almost photographic images), you can paint where you feel comfortable and you get to work and visit with some of the greatest people around! We ALWAYS have a blast! And Dale, if you need a pit stop on your way down, we are less than a mile off of I-55 and about 20 mile from I-39. We will probably be down there sometime Wednesday. We're EXCITED!!
Posted by Cam Bortz (Member # 55) on :
Steve, Some of us are doing our "walls" on dibond panels to be installed later, so bring some quills and/or flats as well. Those of us who are flying in rather than driving are limited as to what we can carry, so things like Penetrol or other flow enhancers, brush oil, exacto knives, etc are always appreciated.
Posted by Dave Utter (Member # 634) on :
For those of you using Interstate 55 to Springfield and then West on 72/36 to get to J'ville, The interchange at Springfield to get on 72 can be confusing. I have put a little help on this web page to get you through, hopefully without missing your turn. Just about everyone I have talked to who has been through here has missed their turn there. (including myself) hope this helps.
Posted by Jane Diaz (Member # 595) on :
Thanks, Dave! We would probably be still circling, trying to find our way.... See ya there. Don't forget, you are in charge of zilching & puppet show supplies! But this time Kay DOES NOT get to use the lighter!!
Posted by Miles Cullinane (Member # 980) on :
Well I begin my travels tomorrow, tue at 12 noon and should get there by 9pm or so that is not including the 6 hours time difference. It's going to be one long day. Cork to London, London to Chicago and chigaco to Springfield. a ride to Jacksonville.
Let the fun and fumes begin.

Be careful not to get lost in O'Hare if that's where you're headed, Miles. I had 1.5 hours to connect to Pittsburgh from Dublin there, and I BARELY made it. That terminal is soo big! Are you traveling Aer Lingus? I was really pleased with their service. Have a safe trip. Bring sunscreen! love....Jill

Well, I am loaded up and ready to take off tomorrow morning. About the only thing I have room for in my truck is a few truffles!
I hope a lot of people are coming over to Jacksonville to help out, I want to finish my wall early so I can go over and help Bill and Jane....they are fun to hang out with!...No wait, maybe I could help Michael Clark on his wall (note to self....bring earplugs) or My Buddy Cisco???? what to do ???? what to Do? So many great people and only so many hours to play in!
See you all there! Should be a blast and a half!

I'm packed and ready to fly, even with a major tooth problem the show must go on! I'll be ridin into J-Ville with Cam ready to paint the town...
Posted by Kurt Gaber (Member # 256) on :
Dale,
Leave a trail of bread crumbs, vinyl scraps, paint drippings... I'll follow you down there. I hope "ol Bessie" doesn't give me any headaches on the trip. Truck needs tires, a/c doesn't quite give out the shivers like it used to, and as of this week, you have to roll down the window to let yourself out because the door handle rod broke for the 3rd time since I've owned it. See you there!
