I have been asked by a local new car dealer to place vinyl graphics on new vehicles. These will be temporary installations that will have to be removed when the vehicle sells. Can anyone suggest the type of vinyl I should use? I don't want to stick on 2 mil cast only to have it removed in a few days. Thanks for your help.

Gerber Instachange works great, but I believe only comes in white, we edge print it. Or just use cheap calendered vinyl and don't strip the wax before applying.

A certain brand of vinyl has been bandied about recently as being self removing, but I don't think that is the solution to your problem.
Right off, I couldn't find in my sample books any that was intended for temporary use but several manufacturers make paint mask film that is designed for easy removal without leaving adhesive. Avery makes a yellow one that is supposed to be heat resistant to 200 degrees for baked enamels. It might be an answer.

The instachange works well. I've done edge printed full side wraps that were stripped easily after one year. . . .but it is white. As far as general removable vinyl goes I'm only aware of white and yellow. Paint mask will work too.

Over here we have stuff we call "Real Estate Red" cheap junky calendered vinyl that won't last 12 months on a real estate sign but suits short term use. It comes in blue, yellow, black & white too. Otherwise why not use any 1 to 3 year calendered vinyl?

Buying in cheap vinyl is false economy unless you intend to be doing large quantities.
Your major cost factor in a job is TIME! The couple of bucks you save on materials is not worth the effort and investment and probably ends up costing as much when you factor that in plus freight etc.
I do not stock intermediate vinyl for that reason. So what if it costs me $2 or $3 more to do a "temporary" sign. I would be charging the customer the same price whatever grade vinyl I used!

3m 3 mil vinyl does the trick for me. It's a 6 years rated and removes quit easily. We do up lost of these for local dealerships.

Hiya Jack, Are these stickers something that the dealer may use more than once? Perhaps, a decal applied to static cling may be a more attractive option?
