There's been a lot of talk about mental and physical health here lately. I fervently believe it is essential to balance both to work together. What's your take? (for fun: I believe in dark chocolate for good mental health for me!)

Absolutely!
Your thoughts are a BIG part of how you feel.
It may sound crazy, but I've been adding more structure to my life with regards to the little things. Streamlining and simplifying things. Less clutter around me. Making little rituals that I follow daily. Things like washing the dishes I use right away, and keeping up with the laundry, putting stuff away in their disignated places. (I can hear my mom's voice in the distance right now saying "put things back where they belong")
hahaha... funny, the older I get the smarter my mom looks.
Making my space around me more user friendly is making a big difference in how I feel.
I think my own disorganization can give me the most stress ... so I knew I needed to deal with that. So far so good.

Deb, I truly believe that you cannot have good physical health without good mental health.
The days when I take some time for myself, make a cup of tea, sit down and relax for a little while, I feel 900% better than the days when I'm running around, all annoyed and stressed out. When do you think I have a headache? It's sure not the day when I'm sitting there sipping a cup of tea watching the birds in my bird feeder.
It's amazing the abuse we give our minds and bodies (poor eating habits, lack of sleep, anger etc.) and expect them to work at their top potential.
Jeannette, I have a sensational book called Spiritual Housecleaning (Healing the space witin by beautifying the space around you) by Kathryn L. Robyn.
It's not just about colors and decorating but about cleaning, removing clutter, making our spaces be places where we WANT to be and that re-energize us.

MIND is the engine, body is the RUNNING GEAR and WHEELS. old adage say MAKE SURE BRAIN IS IN GEAR BEFORE PUTTIN MOUTH IN MOTION holds true here also. without having youre mental state at peak power and activity...youre body dont work so well. in my years in drug rehab this factor became more evident every day as i saw the changes within myself and other around me. with a self depracating mind set youre off to nothing but bad experiances. with a positive mind set your set in motion mostly positive outcomes. this is well documented in the eastern philosophies. people who meditate have better lifes and longer lifes even without all the fame, riches, and creature comforts. because the mind is at peace and calmed the body will follow this with lower BP, PROPER DIGESTION, MORE RESTFUL REST. the biggest problem today in life is gettin the head right!!! do that and the body just works.....better.

...I recently read a great book on this subject. It is "ANATOMY of the SPIRIT" by Carolym Myss. It changed my life.

I find that if I listen to what comes out of my mouth as well as what goes into my head, I can gauge how it will affect my heart. Out of it flow the issues of life. Words can also determine what I think, either my own words or the words of someone else. Like a spark can set a forest on fire, the tongue can set the world on fire. My words are a good barometer of my overall health. Joe I sympathasize with the mental health stuff. The older I get the more I realize it is always a heart condition. Guard it with all your might. Everything, I mean everything else works out. Even the mistakes can become fodder for a better life. A friend said once, "Even the most reprehensible person can serve as a bad example." The key word being SERVE. Once I made up my mind to be of maximum service, most of the garbage became compost. I still have stuff but it is being fed a whole lot better 'diet'. Good stuff in, good stuff out.

great responses! I find myself breathing much better when I am aware that I must get back to the basic caring of myself. Stretching and muscle toning can be done at the computer to start. The better the breathing, the more colorful, visual experiences I have. Yep, I'm housecleaning in a sort of way, old paperwork, new paperwork, out of the way, issues resolved, realizing that time is precious, as there's so many things we could have done in time we were frustrated or at a standstill. Nothing stands still, really. Just as Kimberly listens to the birds, it can be a total day for me too.

Yep,"time out" is very important. I find nothing more relaxing than sitting watching birds. I can communicate with them more than I can with some humans. Last year I started taking Wednesday afternoons off to play golf. It just needs a little re-organizing but then I sure work "smarter" for doing so.

Deb, As you know when we have talked I share all the kind words you give and believe in the power of the spirit completely. I have a wierd way about me and I don't mean to come off in any way but what I see as a thought process that keeps me grounded and keeps me from moving a lot of the "DAMNED" off of the streets around here. Drivers is what I refer to that have no brains. Especially the freeway goons that should not own a car. It falls in this catagory....... Insane: is in your sanity ! (they got it backwards) Outsane: is out of your mind ! ( I don't think outsane is a word )? I have to work out a lot to keep myself in sane, in my sanity.!
Kelly, you've got a ticket to ride and any one who isn't afraid can make the trip too.!

Jack, I'm riding on your tailwind. (and I'm packed too)! I guess I'm ready for the hills, since I'd rather run into a rattler crossing the road than what's out there now. yes, the spiritual part is the driving force behind the body and mind, as it's the heart of it all.
