Congrats on the tat Dennis.
No tats for me ... I guess I have committment issues when it comes to "decor". I can't even land on a wall colour for my living room for any extent of time.
But I sure do appreciate the art in them, and some of the stories behind them.
Anyone else get into that show "Miami Ink"?. It's amazing the colour and depth that can be achieved in a tattoo. That show really opened my eyes to that and made me appreciate them more.
If I ever got a tat, I'd want Garver to do it. Either him or the chick they have on there. Those two are amazing tattoo artists.

I don't have a close up shot of mine, but its a tribal band with my son's name in it on my upper arm (far enough up where it can be covered by a tee shirt).
I have an appointment on the 25th of this month to start my back (again covered by a tee shirt).

I've never been a tatoo guy. I just could never like one piece of art so much that I would want to make it a permanent part of me.
I'd get bored and wish I hadn't done it.
Or, like the grandpa Simpson episode....they asked what the splotchy stan was on his chest....so Grandpa Simpson says, "Oh, you mean this?!" And he proceeds to grab his wrinkly ol' skin and pull it up really tight to reveal a intricately rendered battleship.
Then, He let's loose of his stretched out skin and it retracts back like a window shade into his normally flabby, wrinkled skin and takes on the appearance of a splotchy stain again.
Hheheheahahhaha...it was a funny visual.
Anyway....I like tatoo art...just not personally brave enough to permanantly mark myself.
I like to see others stuff though.

I like tatto art . . . it's pretty awesome these days.
I'm amazed at people who are literally covered from head to toe. Even those 'tender' locations... or really . . . intimate . . . places where I can NOT imagine how they endured being repeatedly pricked . . . or how the artist endured it. Eeeuuw. I hope the person bathed. LOL
I know a girl (she's almost entirely covered with tattoos). . .who has a giant butterfly all around . . . 'there' . . . the huge wings reach nearly to her knees.
And how, in all those years I escaped getting a tattoo I'll never know. That was back in the days when tattoos were only in vogue on military guys, bikers, and convicts . . . now every other high school kid has one above their crack and business women have them on their ankles.
But back then, (I mean 25-30 years ago) on a regular basis, I saw people tattoo themselves while drunk. Uh-oh. How nice was THAT lay-out . . .
And I saw people passed out and imbedded with horrible lettering and drawings by some other drunk idiot . . . lol
I had a good habit of locking myself in unoccupied vehicles prior to passing out at parties because I was afraid of being tattooed . . . or worse . . .
Meanwhile, it's a strange bit of flattery to have your name tattooed on someone else. Emily's Dad has 'my head' with a cowboy hat and long black hair and my name under it in my handwriting. Thankfully, it's on the front of his chest just below his collarbone so it's not often seen.
Another friend has a self-portrait of my face and hair covering his forearm . . . but he has 'sleeves' now and it's almost lost in all the 'indian and dragon' craziness.
It's impossible not to appreciate the artwork, which you often see on other substrates, like prints, posters, and canvas. With tattoos I personally appreciate original art.

That pic was taken right after my son did it about 3 yrs. ago. He just reworked it a couple of months ago, & may enter it in a contest at a tattoo convention next month. It is Jesus reaching over the cliff for the one lost sheep.
That was my third one. The others are a Harley eagle on my left arm, & a rosebud that was put on my butt when I was about 18, which has "grown" a bit, since I have over the years!!! Lol!

Our Son Adam is an up and coming tattoo artist. He's only been at it for just over 6 months, but he is already attracting a steady flow of fans.
A couple of weeks ago my Mother dropped in for a visit. Nana is 71 years young. She surprised and delighted the whole Family when she demanded Adam tattoo a butterfly on her foot. This is her first tattoo, but I already suspect she will be back with her car full of Grannies.

I have to agree with the position of having a huge amount of respect for a talented tattoo artist, but lack the commitment to get one myself. My brother, however, has managed to adorn himself with several very nice pieces...one being Vincent VanGogh's last self portrait on his shoulder blade. Amazing color work.
edited to say my commitment issues may start to wain by the time I reach 71....you never know.

Those who have seen my tattoo know what it is, too lazy to post a pic. Just wanted to jump in here and say Wow! Adam, I am so impressed (and Bobbie's son's work is also great) I really love that older style look. Mine is on the base of my spine, so I can't see it. That's why I got it there, because then I don't have to worry about it. Love....Jill

Yes, I'll never tell:) Talented kids you guys have, wow what nerve they have to do them, and to have them done. Being married to a biker for over 10 years, well, I've seen lots, plus his friend deals the equipment and supplies. Oh, okay, oh well, I don't have one, and wouldn't do anything permanent, but do admire the art and suffering folks go through to get it. Still, I tell my kids no, and I'd rather see the artwork on a bike or wall. Have to say these tatoo artists are some of the finest artists around, not always getting the credit they deserve; just beautiful awesome designs and skill.

Deb, some of these guys are fantastic! While looking for that picture, I ran across a lot of beautiful "art". There is a lot of great art from the Asian countries.

Another non-tatooed person's post. I have a customer who from what I can gather is a pastor at a church in the area. He referred his daughter to me who is a linguistic academic and returned mid last year from China where she has spent the last couple of years. I noticed on the first visit what was obviously a part of a Bengal tiger showing from either side of the shoulder straps of her top. I commented that it looked like a very nice piece of artwork & she showed me the rest as far as modesty would allow and I was gobsmacked by the colour and detail. It starts at lower calf and extends across her legs and torso with one forearm around her upper waist and one across her shoulder. I didn't get to see the tail sadly. The whole job had been a work in progress by the same artist while she was in China with the head to be completed on a return trip. Shaved head required. It is truely an outstanding work of art. Maybe I can get some pics next time she drops in, it is obviously something she is rightfully proud of.
