After a dozen meets, I've met a bunch of great folks and learned something from every one of them, but here in Letterville, there are those who have also influenced my learning curve I haven't met and sure would like to meet.
Like most meets, there's really not a whole lotta rules....just one....
List 5 of the people you've read posts from here or have heard of elsewhere that you'd most like to meet in person and a brief reason why.
My choices are...
Mike Lavallee - just to watch him paint. David Butler - just to watch him design. Joey Madden - just to watch him stripe. Dan Sawatzky - just to watch him imagine. John Deaton - just to call him "Tater" all weekend.
Welcome to the "1st ONLINE LETTERHEAD I WANNA" meet! (brushes optional)

Dan Sawhoshewhatsis just to enjoy his energetic conversations in person (& learn how to pronounce his name) Kelly Thorson because she's Kel Russ to try to help him find a wife. Mike Lavelle to find out in person what he's wearing. (Ha, I'll bet he thought it was so I could feel tall) Jake Snow cause his humor kills me.

I have met too many to list. What's weird is sometimes they are absolutely nothing like I expected. Ummm... ARTHUR VANSON I'd like to meet Russ, definately. Raymond Chapman to see if we are the same height. (5'1") Robert Lambie (same reason as above) Nik McIntosh Catalin Dretcanu (sp?) Dan Antonelli Ricky Jackson Stephen Deveau Henry Barker Ian from Oz They are the only ones at the moment who come to mind! Oops there I go, that was more than 5. And I'll get to meet 3 of the above at Stewart's!!! OOps again...Luke Scanlan (will meet at Stewart's) and Dan, in person, is VERY quiet but funny in a sneaky way. (Juanita) Kelly is very boisterous, especially around fellow Canadians! Love.....jill (keep having to add)

David and Robin MacDonald - (ok, that's two but who is really counting...) - They do some of the coolest stuff I have ever seen.
Russ McMullin - Because he is a talented designer and a great chat dude.
Dan Antonelli - because he is a real talent and I would enjoy a conversation with him.
I can think of a whole lot of people I would dearly love to see again, though...

I've been pretty fortunate in that I have been able to meet several letterheads, (and have formed some life long friendships with a few).
But, of those I have not yet to had the priviledge to meet in person, I would really like to shake hands with:
Cj Alan - because he reminds me of my grandfather (not age -wise, but CJ seems to have the same "spirit")
Dan Sawatzky - I admire his positive can-do attitude.
Donna - One of my very first friends here in Letterville
Mike Lavallee - cause he's famous now !
Cisco - another one of my very first friends here, but mostly because he knows how to find the party!

I was fortunate enough to get to meet everyone at the 2004 Hogtown meet...Judy Pate, Jeff Ogden, Dusty Yaxley, Sheila Ferrel, Don Coplen, Amy Brown, Robbie and Janet Rucker and many more. It was great...and the pickin' wasn't too bad either.
I looked up Old Paint when I was in Pensacola....he wasn't wearing his speedo...thank heaven. It was nice meeting him.
Pat Neve came by my shop a few months back and we had a nice chat.
Many others I would like to meet including:
Michael Boone....and Whitey Steve Racz Bobbie Rochow Kelly Thorson Steve and Barb Bruce Bowers Raymond Chapman Dan Sawatski John Deaton Mark Fair I'll think of more later...

That's easy- I'd like to eventually meet just about everyone here, oneday! Why- well a lot share similar interests & ideals & inspire me creatively, and... "just because!"
Edited to add, I've been lucky to meet Rhonda Price, Empy, RT Thomas, Mike Lavallee, and one other north american bloke whose name has slipped my mind but he could do incredibly detailled amazingly tiny 'rude' pictures with a striping dagger- while they were all down under in Oz- that's 5 for starters!

Dan Sawatzky - he's having way too much fun.
Bill Riedel - He's forgotten more about gilding than I'll ever know.
Frank Magoo - seems like a fun guy to hang out with.
Tony Vickio - because he's world famous and I enjoy the stories on his website.
Everyone here is interesting in their own way and of course I'd love to meet you all.

There are an overwhelming amount of Letterheads that I've already met ... that the list of those I haven't is really dwarfed by that.
I'd still very much like to meet ...
John Deaton: That's just got to happen someday because I already feel as though he's a good friend.
Russ McMullen: Sure do appreciate what he brings to the table here, and I think we'd have much to talk about.
Jane Diaz: I just know we'd hit it off. I can almost hear us laughing already.
Henry Barker: Another one I already consider a friend.
Monte Jumper: One of these days Monte!
Mike Pipes: We seem to have some things in common.
Kelly Thorson: I just can't believe we haven't met yet!

I have been fortunate enough to meet some really wonderful Letterheads in the last couple of years. There are others here I feel like I've already met.
With me it isn't so much about the talent or being in awe of a person, it's more about who someone is inside and where they have come from. Take "Super Dan" for instance, talented? - incredibly!....but that isn't the part that I am drawn too. I'd still like Dan even if he was Multi Camless or painted straight lines. I like the child in him, complete with vulnerabilities and imperfections, I like the comfort I feel in having a heart to heart conversation with him, I like his mischievous sense of humour, and I like his drive to push the positive in life. It's like that with most Heads....I'm drawn to their character. The more we share in values and life's circumstances, the more I like them. There are a few who have shown me some incredible kindness in tough times - those are the ones that top my list - I'd like to get the opportunity to thank them in person.
I'm looking forward to meeting a bunch of you guys at Lodi. I don't know how I'm going to get any work done.
Although it changes on a day to day basis, I'd have to say that it is Nettie that consistently keeps coming back to the top on my "want to meet" list.

Rapid, yer a funny guy!
I've met some great heads already, but here's my list:
I wanna meet, (in no particular order)
1)David Harding: (cause he does some of the cool stuff with granite I wanna do when I grow up)
2)Gavin: (I love his unusual look at life)
3)Dale Manor: (so I can smash his Mac) No, just kidding, I'd love to learn the art of mural painting.
4)Russ McMullen: (cause he just seems like a great guy to work with)
5)Dan Sawatsamacallit: (because I am motivated by imagination)
These people I have spoken with on the phone, and would live to meet in person:
Susan Seydor Glenn Taylor Bob Stephans Dawn Ellis Tasmus
Would love to have met Kimberly's dad, and Pat King. BTW Steve, I was reading some old posts and noticed that Pat is a forever member....that's nice!

I too have met a lot of Letterheads over the past few years. With a couple hundred in attendance at the Mazeppa gig, there were more than my brain could remember. I was fortunate to get to work with Grampa Dan (permanent resident of toon town), Rod Tickle (the kangaroo chasin' schizophrenic color-blind monkey), Bob Parsons, Stewart, Felix, Kelly Thorson, Steve Estes, Jane and Bill, and Joe....Elvis....too many to remember, but all great people and a lot of fun.
Let's see....
Bill Modzel (cause he likes good computers)
Dan Antonelli (cause he likes good computers with big screens)
Rick Beisiegel (cause I want to see why it takes 5 Dells to do the work of 1 Mac?)
Mike Lavalee (just to watch him work some airbrush magic)
Bill Hueg (cause he can sling a mean mural on the wall)
Mr. Magoo, Raymond (the MC router dude), Nettie, Kimberly, Art Vanson, Tony Vickio, and many more! Here's to seeing you all soon!

Ive been fortunate enough to meet alot of my teenage idols - especially the Jersey crew here. I'm more fortunate to call them friends, including Rich Dombey, Mr. J, Bert Quimby. And of course some Letterhead website friends - including Nettie, Steve Racz, Ray Chapman.
Of those I would like to meet -
Dan S: Inspiring guy, good attitude, intelligent, thought-provoking. Show's what's possible with hard work and positive thinking.
Bob Behoenek: Never met him, but obviously have been influenced by his work and articles over the year. Insanely talented.
Jeff Devey: Another super-talented sign-god.
Gary Anderson: This guy is so good he makes most of us look like we're still in kindergarden. I wish I had 1/10th of his talent.
Mike Stevens: OK, so he's not alive - but I hope to meet him in heaven. Incredible contributions to the industry. My books were written with Mike's as a benchmark to shoot for. I can only hope that my books have an impact on people like Mike's did.
And on a personal note, thanks for those who mentioned my name. Its very humbling coming from your peers.

Bruce and Dana Bowers so I can beg them not to shave their dog anymore.
OP so I can beg him not to wear his Speedo in public.
Dan Antonelli so we can ride around and count apostrophes and foot marks.
Mike Languien cause I've got some "Lenny" stories I'd love to swap.
Steve Barba because how much cooler do you get than painting chicks on airplanes?

Over the years I have been extremely fortunate to have met so many of my heroes, some of which have gone on. Each has produced a flood of memories and my life's work is just an accumulation of what they left with me.
So many I have met and still want to spend more time with in order to pick their brain.
Not really a person, but I would like to meet Sawhatshisname's MultiCam just to see if he will ever produce anything but samples.
This weekend I will be in OKC and get to meet Karyn, so that will be one more off my list.
Dana - just to ask why and how she ever ended up with Bruce.
Larry White - we've met but just briefly and I would like to spend a lot of time with him to learn more about glass.
The same for John Studden - just a master at gold and a lot of other things.
OP - surprise! I think it would be neat to sit down and try to figure out how his brain works. We are the same age, so I think we would have a lot in common.
Lots of folks here who have names and photos, but not a lot of personal things other than what I read....Jill, Steveo, John Deaton (so he could show me how he does those cartoons)Kelley, Felix....and the list goes on and on. Oh, and Catherine - so she can share her enthusiasm with me.
Now, do we need a list of folks that we have met but would rather forget? No, no. Just kidding.
Like Dan said, those of you who mentioned my name really make me feel good, but very humbled. I'm sure that I would gain so much more from you than you would from me.
Probably I have met a great deal more of you than I have not...and it has been a joy - each and every one.

I cant just list five. Its too hard. Lets just say I wanta meet everyone on here sometime before I die. And Ray, if we ever get together, Id be happy for you to call me Tater all day. Round here, thats what most people know me by anyway.
Posted by Russ McMullin (Member # 5617) on :
I feel the same as John. It's too hard to list just 5 for me. I have chatted online and on the phone with so many of you now. I could make a really long list of people I want to meet. I made it to a couple of meets last year and had a great time. I do regret not having met some letterheads that have now passed on.
If I had to pick someone to be at the very top of my "want to meet" list it would be Kimberly Zanetti because she has been so influential in getting me acquainted with this group. Her kindness and generosity are amazing. It is no wonder she is held in such high regard.
Kelly Thorson is actually the first letterhead I met face to face. She gets two thumbs up from me. What a great friend.
Posted by Dan Sawatzky (Member # 88) on :
For every Letterhead I would still like to meet there is one I've already met who I would like to spend MORE time with... personal one-on-one relax and have some fun time. The list is long in both categories.
I have met many of my heroes and influences through the years. There are still many, many more to go.
For those who wish to meet me... I'm truely honored. I hope I get the chance to make face to face friends with the kind folks here who hang here.
The next meet I get to attend (in Lodi) promises to be a great one where many of the folks I look forward to meeting will attend and perhaps sling a little paint on the wall where I will be. These folks will move to my "want to meet" list to the great friends list I already have.
I have been truly honored many times with wonderful Letterheads who have travelled a great distance to where I was working to give me a hand and have some great times. The winner in that category is Chris Elliot.... who drove thousands of miles - all night just to sling some paint on the mural in Sterling, Illinois. That was a wonderful project where others joined in too... Debbie, Dave, and Jay.
Letterheads are COOL!

But my vote for the "Professional Letterhead Meet Attendee" goes to Ozzie John Jordon. He does know everybody, everywhere and has been to more meets worldwide than I have had hot breakfasts!
My list of "Wanna Meets" just keeps growing. I managed to make a fair dent in the USA content with a visit to Fred's Meet in Ok a while back. A trip across Canada next year will pick up a lot more ... especially Kelly, Donna, Dan, Dawg and see the Mayor and his lovely wife again.

I’ve met all the original Letterheads and many more over the 35 years I have been working with signs. If you’re not on the list, I’ve either met you or I think I have, or I forgot, or I ran out of time, or I owe you money, or I...
So, with tongue ensconced firmly in cheek, here is my list of five Letterheads I’d like to meet (you’d never believe I was a math major):
Rick Beisiegel–our “out of shop” lives are so similar. We both spend many hours a month doing the same volunteer work. Dan Sawatzky–Grandpa Dan does some outrageous stuff! I want to meet him and see his creations up close. Thomas Edison once said: “Genius is one percent inspiration and ninety-nine percent perspiration.” I get lots of inspiration from Dan’s perspiration. Arthur Vanson–Arthur is truly among the elite when it comes to typography. I always learn something from his layout sketches. Larry White–What can he not do with glass? Kelly Thorson–an up and coming talent with glass. Saskatchewan must be the home on the range, for I never hear a discouraging word from her. Steve Greer–to thank him for being such a good sport after all the ribbing I gave him during the Router Wars. OP–to see if he talks like he spells. Sheila Farrell–to see if she spells like she talks. Patrick Whatley–so we can discuss whether foot and inch characters are used for apostrophes and quotation marks in countries using the metric system. Donna in B.C.–I can learn more about lettering fire trucks. Amy Brown–does some nice work. I also want to see her router setup. Doug Allan–I’d rather visit at his place than mine. Doug Phillips–I’d rather visit at his place than mine in the summer. David Fisher, Jon Butterworth, Ian Stewart-Koster–since I’m now in the world tour mode, I’d like to go to Australia. Due to the Coriolis effect, did your Avery peel backwards down there? Catalin Dretcanu, Periandros Damoulis, Henry Barker, Vallentin Vassileff–I might as well go the rest of the way around the world. There’s some real talent across the pond. Mike O’Neil–We’ll land in Labrador so I can see eastern Canada as well. Neil Butler–might as well hang with a Newfie while I’m there. Dave Grundy–good Corel man, probably won’t be able to catch him in Canada. Oh, well, I like vacationing in Mexico. Phil Steffen–we can visit “Carleton’s prize” together. Cam Borz–so I can listen to him rant. Karyn Bush, Chris Welker–while I’m in the area, I might as well listen to them rant. If Chris starts to wind down, I’ll toss a log of Avery on the fire. Tony Vickio–he’s world famous so I have to get his autograph, besides, at this point, I’m still nearby. I’ll get pictures for Raymond of Tony using water borne paints. Michael Berry–I’ll grab a load of sign brackets while I’m there. Jill Welsh–I can finally stop in a hardware store and have someone know what I’m talking about when trying to find fasteners to use with Michael’s sign brackets. Brian Born–a very sharp person who is going to do well with his new endeavor. John Deaton–what a cartoonist! Dawud Shaheed–to help him clean the back of his truck (as long as he doesn’t post photos of mine). James Donohue–the MacGyver of eastern Tennessee. Wayne Webb–the MacGyver of the Florida panhandle. Ernie Balch–MacGyver squared. Anyone who built his own CNC machine from scratch is my hero! Roy Frisby–to inventory his supply of holes. I feel a void and experience an emptiness as I write, for there’s less to this than he lets on. I think he is hole-ding out on us. We must get to the bottom of this hole thing. Gavin Chachere–I’ll learn more about paint sharing one cup of Starbucks with him than I already know, and I’ll probably laugh so hard I blow the coffee out my nose. Bob Darnell–great Corel designer and illustrator. Dan Antonelli–like Bob on Illy. Everything Dan does reeks of class! Stevo Chartrand–very nice logo designs. Rick Chavez–I never fail to learn from him. Pierre Tardif–beautiful calligraphy! Frank Magoo–an upbeat, helpful person. Kimberly Zanetti–where else will you find a chef so adept with sign design? Oh yeah... Mike Pipes–add photography to the graphics and food prep. Cynthia Pack–her grit and determination in spite of physical limitations is inspiring. Glen Taylor–neither flood nor high water shall stay this courier from his positive attitude. Ryan Young–we’ll plot the next Letterville hijacking caper. We might need some of his custom helmets to survive the thumping Barb and Steve will give us. Mike Levalee–the only guy who has turned pyromania into a legal product with high demand. Barry Branscum–adds computer pyromania to the mix. Bob Burns–to find out how on earth he managed to get salable output from his ColorCAMM. Laura Butler–we’ll compare flying stories. Bob Stephens–Laura and I want to know why he insists on jumping out of perfectly good airplanes, no matter who is at the controls. Anyone who loves snakes can’t possibly be afraid of pilots. Curtis Hammond–After reading “The Battle of Katrina”, I have nothing but respect for him. William DeBekker–I’ll check out his new (old?) shop and drive the Temple Canyon Road (haven’t been on that piece of perilous pavement in a while–well, actually, there is no pavement). Rapid Roger–to find out if there’s anything RapidTac won’t do. Steve and Barb–special thanks to them for making the Letterville playground happen.
...and plenty more. Everybody brings something to the table!
If things work out, I’ll try to get stuck in Lodi and then whittle my list some more at the Cincinnati Zoo.

I'd have to say everyone also. Because I'd say you could take away a little from every one. Good or bad doesn't matter. Because you guys are the kind of people I think I could relate to on a level that would not make me wanna slam my winky in a sliding glass door!
And I can't wait to start meeting all of you at some of these here meet things you keep going on about

living in the uk it is hard to meet all the people that have influenced me as most of them are over the pond, last year went a good way to meeting most off my list when I attended the Meet in Greece..........I met
David Butler Gary Anderson Noel Webber and a host of other people...Sheila Ferrell, Sonny Franks.........just too many to list.
Ones I'd like to meet
Mike Lavallee cos nobody swings an air brush like him. Tramp Warner who I may meet in Stirling in May.
Mike Stevens just to have said thanks for the books.
David Hightower just to see where he gets the inspiration for his striping.
My old boss and mentor George, now sadly gone. to say thanks again for the five years I was apprenticed to him and for all he taught me including five years of brush practice writing Gill Sans almost every working day!!!!!
do I have to pick any more cos there are so many.
