I "borrowed" this game from another board, and thought I'd start it here!! The concept is to play the nosey neighbor, or sign competitor, or what have you. Each person answers the question the poster above them asked and asks their own question.

My question:
What did you accomplish today in the shop?

Posted by Jane Diaz (Member # 595) on :

I mailed in all the FICA, FUTA, federal tax forms that are due January 31st! PHEW! I HATE$ that job!
What is the best thing another letterhead ever did for you?

Posted by Jon Butterworth (Member # 227) on :

One time I got so sick I couldn't even lift a brush. A fellow Letterhead came in and worked all weekend on four big banners by himself and finished the job due on the monday. Wouldn't accept a penny for it!

What have you done to return a favour from a Letterhead?

Posted by Sheila Ferrell (Member # 3741) on :

This sounds fun donna. [Smile]

Jane!
So VERY hard to answer . . . everyone's done so much . . .
Judy 'adopted' me into the fold. Jilly said I seemed normal! [Razz] Sonny gave me a pack of gold leaf . . . RT spent untold hours helpin' me start-up and keep my plotter goin' . . . and all of you re-newed and changed my outlook on the business for the better.

I love everyone. *sob*sniff*

[Big Grin]

New Q:
What time do you close the shop each day?

Posted by Mike Pipes (Member # 1573) on :

I usually zip on outta here around 4:30-5:00, sometimes earlier if I have errands to get done before banks or other businesses close.

What's on your schedule for tomorrow?

Posted by Donna in BC (Member # 130) on :

Going to physio, stopping in at a home reno store for more crap to haul in here, and maybe a quick look see at Lucky Grampa Dan's. [Smile]

You didn't ask a question, Carl!

Too many backed up for me to answer... so here's one from Deb: deja vu- it was about three days ago. It related to measuring a building for some signs, and I'm sure I measured it years before in a dream or something like that.

Favorite joke.
Two farmers standing by the fence admiring farmer #1 most valuable pig.

Farmer #2 says "thats a mighty fine pig but why does it have a wooden leg?"

Farmer #1 says "ah, the pig is valuable to me because one time he saw that the tractor had rolled over on me and he went for help. Another time he saw that I was drowning and he swam out and saved my life."

Farmer #2 says "thats great. But why does he have a wooden leg."

Farmer#1 says " Ah, that pig is so valuable, you can't eat him all at once.."

It was around Christmas. I was looking after my neighbour's kids for awhile as she rarely got a break. I baked cookies that afternoon while the kids played. Then I had all the kids dress up Christmas like and we went out with the cookies door to door caroling while we gave them a plateful. I wanted to thank my neighbours for making me feel so at home in a new neighbourhood and told each one of them that. The kids took turns holding the plate of honor.

Our last stop was the mom of the kids I was watching. She opened the door and her jaw dropped to see her own kidlets caroling to her. Tears sprung into her eyes and I got the biggest hug ever.

The next day I recieved a plateful of cookies and a card from her. It was a very moving message in the card and made me so very glad to be able to give her such a lift when she needed it most.

What one single experience has really moved you?

Posted by Jane Diaz (Member # 595) on :

27+ years ago at Christmas, I was recently divorced and feeling pretty down on the world in general. I had decided that I just would not participate in Christmas this year. I was home alone in the farm house that I rented, drinking wine, listening to sad music on Christmas eve... [Frown] REALLY feeling sorry for myself. Here comes the landlord's teenage daughter with a little christmas ornament, a bag of food each for my dog and my cats and just left it out on the front porch. I think of her every year when I put that ornament on the tree. It was such a little thing, but it was really a sparkling star in MY life at the time and it really meant alot to me that a young girl that hardly knew me, was worried about how I was doing. It just renewed my faith in mankind.
I still hated MEN for a while, till I met Bill that spring and he swept me off my feet! [Wink]

Mission brown I don't! (reminds me of painting all the architraves in my parents' house in the 1970s- boringggg!)

No questions above to answer...so to Jill's question:
7 or 8 meets. Downunder we generally have only one meet a year.

Question: What's for lunch? (or dinner, up over?)

Thought of changing it to Jon's Signs. Only because I often get called Mr.Jon Sign. My bank even has check book, statements, and deposit books filed under B for Butterworth, J for Jon Signs and S for signs!

What DON'T you like about Sign of the Month?

I had 4 siblings, one passed away. So I have 3 siblings.

Whose is the most famous person you have ever met?

Judy

Posted by Jon Butterworth (Member # 227) on :

I know Michael Collins very well. He was the commander of the first moon landing. Nice guy.

Posted by Deb Fowler (Member # 1039) on :

Bushie, you didn't ask a question so I'll answer Judy's.
I met President Gerald Ford when he was campaigning in Portland, Maine. We gave him our penthouse suite and he gave my daughter a kiss on her forehead when she was two. Lucky gal to this day!
(then there's the Kinks and Count Basie and his wife, Katie) yes, I'm a perpetually happy camper, no matter what life dishes up, we have lemonade!
question: what's the most daring adventure you've been on in your life?

Posted by Ian Stewart-Koster (Member # 3500) on :

Bushie, siblings are brothers & sisters!, not your children!

Most daring- hard to say- but I backpacked all over UK & Europe with barely $1500 to my name, and l;asted 5 months till I ran out of money. That worked out around $10 per day spending, living & travelling money...times were interesting!

Question:

Would you recommend your job to your children?

Posted by Doug Allan (Member # 2247) on :

yes, to both of them!

...do you look forward to a traditional retirement of never doing "your job" again?

Posted by Deb Fowler (Member # 1039) on :

Yes, siblings are not kids, but mine are now treating me like a sibling, and it's kind of nice, although I have to remind them to be mindful I'm their mom.
I would highly recommend that my kids work with me and try some of the profession. If they don't want to do this, since it's tough, I still tell them it's a good way to learn a business that will be useful for a very long time. There is so much diversity, and I think the layout and design is something everyone could use in many versatile ways in life even if they don't take up the trade.
Plus in this day and age, it's great to have many different skills, so why not? Life is so much better in color!
How many of your family have participated in your sign or striping or carving business?

Deb: when there's been a rush, I've had 5 helping with weeding!
Doug: retirement - No, I enjoy what I'm doing- retirement in the normal sense isn't a goal for me.

Posted by Ian Stewart-Koster (Member # 3500) on :

I wanted to for a while, but cost & geography stopped me, then in 1999 this bloke broke down opposite our driveway one day- he'd just driven 1600km from Geelong, on his way to a Letterheads meet, and I was on my way to post the registration money for it at the same time. I stopped to help, and we've been mates ever since!

edit to add a question- are you a tea or a coffee person? Black or white / sweet or plain?

(edit a second time to explain: 'mates' in aussie idiom means very good pals, no sexual references there at all... I was 'misunderstood' be a letterhead here a few months ago when using the same word...)

(she was having cramping and is 7 mos preg with twins), okay...I'll be right over! No, wait till I call my doctor and I'll let you know (it's 20 minutes to her house)...I get in my car and start it call her on the cordless and say I'm on my way, while she tells me her doctor is not available for two days, yikes, speeding over there, I got her to the hospital, a minor stomach bug, etc. back home safely! whew!

Pretty sure I'm paying taxes this year although the investment in photography and the major slow-down in work at the end of 2005 will probably make a good dent in what I pay.

Hobby du Jour right now is photography but today I'm spending some time on those taillights for the pimpmobile. Making molds of the rear corner areas so I can vacuum form some clear lenses to match the curves then I'll be vac forming the inside reflector pans before they get chromed.

Ever seen 1 inch frost on trees that shatters the sunshine so you can't look at it because it's so dazzling? What's your favorite nature view?

Posted by Donna in BC (Member # 130) on :

Edited to say: Kelly, I've seen a ton of frost stuff in my time. We use to have real winters about 30 years ago, the kind where the roads actually disappear and the snowdrifts led you to the rooftops of buildings. So cool! Ice storms are the ultimate yet very dangerous. You could hear crashing all night with the trees breaking off sounding exactly like shattering glass. It was always a challenge walking on top of the drifts covered in ice wondering when a leg would disappear. [Smile]

Anything snow is my ultimate favorite. I've been looking for art for the house and I fell in love with a somewhat modern pic of a leafless tree sitting quietly in the snow with a woodsy fence running up to it, in all my fav current house colors, whites, mochas, blacks... Something about snow, hard to explain. It's somewhat of a fantasy yet realistic out this way.

OT!!!

Kissy, I have the pancake recipe of the century for you! Yes you CAN do it if I can!

1 cup flour
pinch of salt
1 tbsp sugar
2 tsp baking powder

1 beaten egg (I love a quality free range)
1 cup milk (or sub abit of cream for the milk for a richer cake)
2 tbsp melted butter (I use becel, they turn out better!)

mix, dry, add milk, add eggs and butter.

Awesome with small slivers of ripe banana, blueberries and cranberries in any combo. I prefer Rogers golden syrup over maple, but I grew up with the stuff too. May be a canadian product.

I cook mine up in two non stick frypans on very low. Reheat the pans for abit, spray with pam. When you put down the batter, you should hear the 'slightest' sizzle. The key is the perfect heat temp. I flip them when they turn slightly golden, never darker.

They turn out perfect every single time!

The recipe is perfect for 2 people. They are also good left over cold if loaded with fruit. Make doubles if you like more than 3 for yourself. They are a little on the thicker side, my mom calls them hotcakes as they aren't thin like crepes.

Yes, it is very classy. It also beats the snot out out he last colors combo.

Which Letterhead helped you the most and how?

Just want to pop in here to explain a couple things. Posts like this are fun, and fun is certainly a big part of Letterville. The downside is bandwidth and the performance of the software that drives this BB.

I can't see a big drop in performance yet, but we are many times over the recommended number of posts. It's only a matter of time until we will have to trim earlier posts. Don't worry. Everything will be safely saved.

I guess I am trying to make all aware that there is a performance and cost issue associated with a popular spot like this BB. Our number #1 priority is the exchange of information and promotion of live meets. We have to be careful that fun and OT posts don't begin to outnumber the essential stuff.

This post will end soon. I'd like to encourage all of you, especially those that have never posted to get involved in Donna's new post. It's called 4x4 Share!

g'day Broose,
well I have had many letterheads help me out in so many different ways, so my answer for 2005 is MIKE MEYER! If it wasnt for Mike I wouldnt have made it to Mezzappa last july, what a hoot!

Mr Manor you crazy guy! were we have been swimming the last few weeks in the river just below where our new house is, there have been 4 roos on the other side cooling off in the river, also heaps of kookaburras and thousands of cockatoos. so far no snakes. pretty kewl, tell my girls that now where else on the planet you will see this all infront of you at once.

funny how no matter how great a place is if you live there it seems somewhere else is always better. I wunna come play with the big guns in America.

my question if it makes it on the tenth page is... hmmmmm

how come australians are the only people with no accent?

Posted by Frank Magoo (Member # 3950) on :

Easy Rod, as you are down under, the little thingie in throat that gives accents, is upside down, effectfully rendering it motionless, thereby nullifying it's intended purpose...

Would you move to Oz if opportunity arose???

Don't know if I should answer that one Frank!
Reword it "Would you move to AZ if opportunity arose???"

I don't know- doubt it for anything permanent, but maybe if the money was there...

Here's a question: Would you move to Oz if opportunity arose???

Posted by Mike Pipes (Member # 1573) on :

Hmm I would have to vacation to OZ first before making a decision, but if what I hear about the Gold Coast is true.. OZ's best surf, the sunken ships that the jetski racers cruise around for their practice, etc. I think that's definitely a possibility!

Who has the most posts in this thread? [Smile]

Ian, can't, born and raised in Az, had to move, part of manhood trials...heheheh, but moving there interests the pants offn' me, I'm almost positive, I'd love it there...(spent R&R there twice during war, don't remember a thing about it other than it was on Gold Coast and was a hellva party, still drunk when I returned to Saigon...)

I'd say either you or Bruce, but that's just me...lol Do's running a good second there too... [Rolling On The Floor] [Rolling On The Floor]
