I am looking for an old friend that I knew when I was living and working in Dublin. He has since moved to Australia, in the 80's, but I wondered if anyone from Down Under might know of him. He used to live in Bray, County Wicklow and he was so nice to me when I was starting out in the sign business in Dublin in my early twenties. I'd love to contact he and his wife, Joan I believe is her name.
Hi Tricia, I met Bruce in the mid 1980s inside a sign supplies store in the middle of Brisbane, and I was about to buy myself a gilder's knife, and he took me aside and said there was no need to spend that sort of money, you just use your thumb nail against a crease of the gold linerpaper...so I asked him to please explain, and he gave me his card (he was at Manly, then) and said to call in sometime.
I visited him a few months later, and borrowed an old book on architectural scrollwork I think, which I returned several years later.
He called his business "Bruce Signs". I just checked a 2004 phone book and he and Joan are still in Manly (a bayside suburb of Brisbane) at 170 Cambridge Parade, phone 07 - 3396 0892.
He had photos of lots of really nice windows he'd gilded- he may have retired by now...
(& perhaps someone else here knows more...?)

Hello Ian:
That's him all right. I came up with an address in Manly after I posted here but could not find his business listing. He had just relocated to Australia at that point I suppose. Maybe I will drop him a letter as I can't find any web site or anything of his.
Thanks so much for your reply. I would love to say hello to him and this information helps a lot.
