you know my initial post was short and sweet...didn't realize I was stepping on toes...but I won't apologize for posting the savings I found...you know someone emailed me and told me it was ashame i was on your black list....and that Steve would have his 2 cents worth, and that Steve would bannish me from here....I was under the assumption this was for all sign persons not just a select few... I only wanted to let ya all know about the savings...instead all i got was slammed and now you think i'm not who i claim to be...finding me is not hard my number is listed, as Steve said you all have met and are friends..I guess the rules only apply to those you have not met...if this is how you act ...attacking people for coming and sharing....I don't want or have time or the wear with all to deal with it... to bad it's not like the old days...everything hand painted....3/4ths of you wouldn't even be here..oh well, the good ole days
I doubt many will get to read this because if what the email I recieved is true Steve will delete it
I do have a suggestion tho, how about having a forum for personal chat and one for hardcore sign questions...it takes up valuable time scrolling through the chit chat

First of all, we've had this debate over and over again and it has been decided that there is to not be a seperate forum for personal stuff. It's not brain surgery to pick and choose which posts you want to read and leave alone those that don't interest you.

I was under the assumption this was for all sign persons not just a select few...
Secondly, this site is whatever you make of it. As you are someone new to Letterville, might I suggest a less combative approach?

Edited for spelling.

Ginger, after reading this post and the post you're referring to I've gotta say that you've gone off the deep end here. Don't assume everything you read that's not blatantly defending you is an attack. And if it is an attack WHO CARES?!

Life is way to short to stay all defensive like that. Trust me, I learned that the hard way.

hey ginger...goody for you. but you showed no class going on sal's thread and basically insulting his integrity.

Ginger,
While I may be percieved as one of the chosen few BB darlings, and personally know lots of folks on here, and don't know you at all, I thought it was sorta rude of you to post the Sam's Club price on Sal's sign kit thread.
Would you like it if a competitor handed a Sam's Club sign price guide to every one of your potential clients on their way in to your shop?
(Sam's DOES sell signs BTW)
Contrary to popular belief, their is no black list here in Letterville.
A few folks have peed in the punchbowl at our party, and Steve has shown them the door.
His invite back in to the live meet still stands, and he's said so repeatedly.
All it takes is a promise to behave.
There are quite a few of us sign PAINTING single Moms here, too. And we all love a good bargain.
Just not on someone else's topic.
We also sell a $49 wooden mechanic's box where I work. Felt lined, no mirror. But I prefer Sal's.
Sorry you got your tail feathers ruffled.
Love.....Jill

Brian was right, Ginger. Steve's been banning people here left and right...they're falling like flies. Last count, something around six people since the website began 8 years ago.

I agree with every word that Kimberly and Karyn said. Patrick, too. I also agree with Jill, except she was too nice.

And I'll probably agree with most of the posts that follow this one, too. [Wink]

Hey Ginger.....

I won't slam you , I don't even know you.
I do notice that you have been registered way longer than I have. When I viewed your recent posts, other than those on Sal's post, they all seem pretty upbeat. I think your initial intent was to inform, after that it became defensive...

As to your comments on those who have met, I hadn't met anyone here for a long time after I registered and I never ever felt less than welcome. I think you need to step back and take a big breath. Anytime someone gets super defensive, they set themselves up for suspicion. Attacking Letterville, how it is run and those who frequent here is not going to endear yourself to anyone. If you meant no harm, calmly state that and rest your case. Let it go and carry on.

Or dig yourself deeper....

Truth is, IMHO, you will close the door to a supportive and educational world. If you can learn to take what you want from this site and ignore the rest, you will be far richer for it.

Just my 2 cents, for whatever it is worth to you....

This has absolutely nothing to do with who does & doesn't know each other here. Perhaps introducing yourself instead of just appearing & insulting another member would have resulted in a much different scenario playing out.

I was going to post on the other post , but Steve just locked it up. Before we assume somebody is an azzhole or my bro Sal is a shister. I have to stand up here and speak, as someone who has seen both kits...
I saw Sals kit at AC just a few weeks ago and I must say its beautiful, well crafted and MUCH BIGGER than the same but smaller kit available at Sams Club which I also saw and found to be well crafted, a very similar product but smaller... see how some small observation can get blown out of proportion....

Heck, Chris...she's been registered since '99. Only ten posts up until today, but she isn't new. Who knows? Maybe she did introduce herself when she first got here. I wouldn't remember that far back.

Ginger,

Sometimes we do something with the best of intentions. And sometimes, it has unintended results.

Sal is a good guy. He has more talent in his pinky than I will ever hope to have in my entire body. He also has a big heart. I know that first hand.

Being a fellow North Carolinian, may I make some suggetions. Do with them what you will. First, ignore any e-mails you receive from anyone except from Sal and Steve. Everyone else is irrelevent.

Steve and Barb run a wonderful site. And with this many participants, problems are going to crop up occasionally. Steve and Barb do the best they can with what they have - a bunch of disfuntional, often hard-headed signmakers. But they put up with us anyways. I'm proof of that.

I think what you did in Sal's post was done with the best of intentions. The problem is that it brought into question the integrity of a person that many here know and trust.

Sal is a good man with a big heart. I know that personally.

No one knows you but they know him. And as such, they are going to step up in defense of him. Trust me when I tell you that if Sal were trying to sell a piece of "Wally Crap", word will get around fast enough.

You made a mistake by posting what you did even though it was with the best of intentions. Things like that happen. It is best to simply take the lumps that come, apologize and move on. You'd be surprised at how forgiving this lot can be if you let them. I know that personally, too.

If you are ever headed up north on I-95, feel free to stop by my shop to say hello. The door is open.

did anyone get dimensions on either kit?

Ginger, you do have to be careful what you say and who you say it to on this site, espcially using words like blacklist, or phrases like "same exact"
what you should have said was "looks alot like"
that way you have some sort of speculation in your defense.
I have seen the kit at Sam's and fear NOT, you did buy a quality all wood kit, that looks "alot like" the larger but no better or worse quality kit that my friend Sal is offering.

Your mistake was speculating that the kit Sam Walton is offering was the "same exact" Sal is offering. I DO believe the quality is "alot alike" I would even speculate that the masnufacturer is the same. But neither party mentioned dimensions, so speculation was that the kits were the "same exact" which led other to speculate that you were some kind of traider or even someone who has been banned from the site and looking to stir the pot, maybe a plant from another sign BB or maybe even (dare I say it) a Wal Mart shopper!

I just spent an hour on the phone with Ginger. She's a delightful single Mom with 2 kids. Ginger has followed the Letterhead Movement and almost attended the first big meet in Denver back in the 80s. I like her.

So how do a bunch of good people end up in this mess? Why are we all so fast to assume and jump all over each other before we know the facts?

Ginger hasn't posted much in Letterville. She signed up back in 1999, but got busy with other things in her life. She sees Sal's signkit and believes it is the same kit advertised at Sam's Club. Hold that thought for a minute.

There are numerous times I see posts and links on here to non-Merchants. Nobody sees anything wrong in making all of us aware that something can be had that is better or cheaper somewhere else. In most cases, nobody says anything.

Sal is one of our friends. Many of us know him from meets. He's Family here in Letterville. When someone inadvertantly says something about Family, we get defensive. We begin to assume things and sometimes get nasty and just a tad bit snotty. It's great fun to pick on the new kid at school....not so easy if you are that new kid.

There's another problem. Over the years there have been a few that have tried to decieve the Community by using a false name. As a result of this, and all the crap that creates, there is automatically an assumption that someone new not afraid to speak their mind is an impostor. We have learned from experience to believe people are who they say. You make more friends that way.

quote:
You know someone emailed me and told me it was a shame I was on your black list....and that Steve would have his 2 cents worth, and that Steve would bannish me from here
There is one other element to this story. Everytime there is a hint of misunderstanding here in Letterville, the new person gets an email. The email always states that we are less than honourable people, that we are an egotistical bunch at best. These letters are intended to plant seeds of mistrust and stir up ill will. It's up to all of us to be extra careful that our words and actions never give this unknown e-mailer more ammunition to spread his lies.

So now you all know the whole story. It has a happy ending if all involved can swallow their pride. Letterville is for everyone that loves the things we do. Help us make sure everyone that comes to town feels welcome. At the end of the day, we are all in this together.

Just saw Glenn's post. How can he always manage to say what I am trying to say without using so many words?

[Smile]

Well,
I can say that I have been on both sides of the equation here, having instigated problems, inadvertantly and not in the past and have felt the wrath of the so-called clique. When I realized I was a big part of everyone's reason for "picking on me" and at the very least "grey-listing" me.....I had a nice big slice of CROW pie, and a side of my own words washed down with an apology for the 'tude...and for the most part, with some minor exception, have seen some of my worst "enemies" become at the least friendly acquaintances, hopefully more than that in some cases.

We are all just people here, flawed egotistical, giving, sharing caring....and so on....problems happen when we forget that, and lose the commoon respect that we all oughta offer. If we remember that, we won't start crap that causes these kinda "brushfires".

Thanks for being friends and family letterville. I'm glad to have a part. [Smile]

Because the original thread is locked, I wanted to come here and apologize for the first remark I made on that thread. I think my post was more inflamatory and out of line than Ginger posting the price of her sign kit was, to be honest.

I could tell you about how I play devil's advocate and how I am prone to off-the-cuff remarks that sometimes strike people the wrong way, but any number of people here could say the same things about themselves in general...

The real difference is this website. A lot of comments get noticed here that wouldn't draw a second look or a bat of the eye elsewhere. This community, and I haven't been around it much, is obviously something special and different than most online forums. If Sal is giving away one of the sign kits he planned to use to make some extra cash because of my smart-ass remark, I hope that he decides to sell it instead. Hell, put me in the drawings -- if I win, I'll pay him for it [Smile]

This place is awesome, especially for an up-and-coming young (and sometimes smart-assed) sign-guy like myself. The last thing I want to do is burn bridges here...

Sorry to Sal and everyone else. Lesson learned about how special this place is, and the way I felt about this all evening showed me that I don't wanna do anything to make this community turn its back on me. I'll try to keep my attitude to wise-cracking at worst [Wink]

Thanks guys...

West-central Indiana...about an hour directly west of Indianapolis. I live in West Lafayette, home of Purdue University (where I spent a little time in grad school), which is about a half-hour north of Crawfordsville.

Sal's kit is definately his kit!
I have a hand me down "GERSTNER" that is now
close to eighty years old that resembles that
kit. But.....my kit was used as a "Tool Makers
Box" that I inherited from a former tool maker.
It currently serves as a retired holder of
brushes and debris used from when I operated as
a sign painter.
The corner pieces, handles, trim etc. can be
found at specialty stores for anyone who wants
to build a box like Sal's.
So, SAL...a great job, well done and Happy New
Year to ya !

P.S. My box has no value to anyone but me.
Many memories

As for Sal, I met him at Jill's, & he is such a cute, humble little guy! He also responded to Ginger in a very polite manner on that post.

Sal, if I could afford a nice new box, I would surely buy it from you. I don't feel I am "worthy" of such a nice kit tho! Lol! I guess I may just use my cheapo plastic box from Lowe's for a while til I can paint a bit more like the pro's!

OK, I have followed this thread down the road, to the edge, over the cliff, watched it burst into flames, waited for the fire department, (go Harris), watched them put out the fire, tow away the wreckage, and watched grass regrow. And I still don't know what these 50 posts have accomplished.

There is no "blacklist" just people who cannot follow the rules and play nice.
