Paul, are you talking about a letter with a block shade or a letter with a convex face?

Paul, did you get a "Signlab University" CD with your software? It's easier to see the process with a screenshot, but I can help you over the phone faster than I can type an answer. 770-923-9933

Hiya Paul,
When you have some time, check out the Step by Steps that are accessible through the front page of this site.
Joe Endicott did a nice one here on a 2 color convex letter.
Another option would be to look at these sites: http://www.signdna.com
http://www.letterheadfonts.com/

Havin' fun,

Checkers

All vinyl lettering is 3D, it's just that the 3rd dimension is only 2-3 mils.

Signlab 6 comes with the module for making "prism' lettering. If you know someone that has it you could get them to email it to you.

Paul, I have Signlab E6, & I go up the menu to TRANSFORM >CHISEL EFFECT. The thing is, sometimes it doesn't do them perfect!

In my version of Signlab, two of the D's overlap if you close one of your eyes. I don't know if this is common or not. The third D is there but it's a very small number.
