Kind of looks like what we have here in Texas...well, without the trees and the mountains and the animals and the grass and all that other stuff that Mike thinks is so great that he has to take a picture of it.

Very nice stuff Mike! It doesn't hurt that you just happen to LIVE in such a beautiful environment .
This brings up a question that I discussed with my 13 year old son. We were driving through part of Gettysburg Nat'l Park at sunset, and the cornfield was glowing and undulating. It was BEAUTIFUL! He even appreciated its effects and commented on it.
Now here's the question...
WHY IS IT BEAUTIFUL? Is it ingrained on us from nature or by nurture? Have we been told "That's beautiful" so many times that we start to relate that to our own experiences later on? Or, is it a naturally occuring response? Do we find a common appreciation for things that look nice (maybe even including signs)? When visual elements all come together in such a pleasing manner, can it be a subconcious universally accepted reaction?
I know that "beauty is in the eye of the beholder", but how can so many of us behold the same things as beautiful and even breathtaking at times?

I dunno Gene but I never got much of a kick outta fall colors. As much as I hate snow, my dad's log cabin and property high up on a wooded river bluff are absolutely gorgeous when under a blanket of snow. I also love the beauty of the desert, I never get tired of seeing the mountains in my area because they constantly change appearance with the time of day, and combined with the crystal blue lake and palm trees at the base of those mountains, it's just breathtaking.

Chip Carter emailed some of those to me before Mike posted them. I replied that with clip art of Mt. Moran and PhotoShop, a person can do anything.
My brother lives near Glacier National Park. He, like Chip up in Jackson, is always harassing me about mountains getting in the way of the view.
Last night, my brother lost cell coverage as he drove through a canyon. When he called me back, I told him he needs to move to Texas where we don't have to put up with such problems. We don't throw our backs out shoveling snow, either.

Gene, that IS an interesting question . . . but I have noticed I have NEVER met a person who did'nt find beauty in a landscape, or who did'nt appreciate nature in some way, whereas man-made art is much more subjective to the personal taste of the viewer.

The site was down a few days for needed copyright information maintenance...plus a few more photos and cleaner slide shows. Yes, the photos are copyrighted and anyone would need to get permission to use them. (Actually, ANY photo is automatically copyrighted by the photographer and the rights are reserved by that person until they sell or give away the rights)
I've shot roughly 16,000 photos since January and these are about 150 of my favorites. I add to the pages when I have time.
