Lots of great work again this month!!

A6 gets my voet in the first category. Its what I would call a subtle screamer. While not flashy there is a lot there and it works well together.

B2 works for me in the second category. WHile there are lots of elements they work together well. The airbush work is great!

C5 is my choice in the next category. Its a simple piece that is very dimensional for a flat painted sign. Nice work!

D3 takes the prize in the last category. The logo is clever and the copy is prioritised nicely. I like their choice of colors.

Overall I would choose B2

Thanks for posting these for me Don. This format is easier to choose from.

Voting closes August 13th. Vote here with comments please or send to me your secret vote at jonsigns@icr.com.au.

A quick comment on the entries:

I only got four for Category C, so included C5 in as it is a Corel Draw design for a promotion and didn't really fit in anywhere else. Too good to leave out!

Maybe we should have another category "other" for Designs, logos & panels etc. I've had a few of these and nowhere to put them.

There were only 6 entries in "D". So what you see is what you get. Made my job easier choosing [Smile]

Start them coming for September! Let's have a "full house" again next month

A1 - The stylized "g" works well into the shape of the sign. Very creative.

B5 - Font selection and backround give it an antique feel. Nice.

C5 - Great depth and colors.

D6 - Bright, bold & easy to read.

A1 overall.

My votes for September...

A6

I like the overall look and the base work is great. The layout could use a little tweaking and arced script was a definite turnoff. However, The balance is decent, the graphic fits the sign, and the colors make an inviting welcome sign for the city.

B6

This sign has a very graceful feel to it. The colors really work with the design. The typestyles fits the sign very well, too. The pictorial really makes this sign work.

C5

This may be a Corel file but, man, does it ever pop! I love the period feel to it. The colors are unusual, the letter styles work for the look, and the perspective shadow with a cast shade is just too neat! Outstanding!

D6

This design is bold, clean, and the colors make it pop! The earth graphic is sharp and really works with the letter style used for the name.

Overall: C5

Ooooh these were great - especially hard to pick in the first 2 categories. Here's mine:

A1 - was torn between this and A6 but went with the simpler, more elegant design.

B6 - hard to pick between this and B4 too - liked the color choices of this one though.

C5 - like the 3D effect.

D5 - again went with the simpler design - seemed to stand out and the splash won it over for me.

Overall A1

Wish I had anything worthy of entering - great job to all!!!

[Eek!] Great work!

I like the new formant to although the pics are much smaller and some details are hard to see . . .

A5 - creativity

B: Can't even choose. I like everyone for the different styles that they are.

C1 - CUTE! C5 - looks just like it was done on the 30's or 40's

D4 - Nice lettering! D5 - Very colourful!!

C5 is my fav.

sheila, i assume that you clicked on the thumbnails to see the larger view. They're the same size they always were.

If you click on any of the thumbnails, you can then navigate with the grey arrows at the top of the new page.

A6

I like the overall feel of it. It is a bit cramped, needs more negative space and the arched italicized script wasn't real appealing.

B1

Classy. Nice choice of colors, really like that it's not a square or rectangular sign with the layout forced to fit the shape.

C5

Like the colors & cleanliness of it.

D6

Clean but not bland. (I do hope it's my monitor making the phone number panel that color.)

I hereby invoke my right to refuse to chose an overall. [Wink]

Nice signs, here's my thoughts.

A6 - I like the colors and the design of the structure

B6 - I like the font choice and especially like the border treatment

C5- I love this sign! The blended shade. The colors and if I'm not mistaken, that's a perfectly executed , hand painted plain egyptian font. It's hard to tell with all the fonts out there but that looked like a painted one stroke letter.

D3 - I just like the use of the tracks as a panel.

Overall - C5.

A6 - with A2 a close second - all are great though
B6 - really like the graphic
C5 - i love the way "George" leaps off the sign
D3 - i really like the balance of this sign

A6 - overall

edited to say C5 (doh)

A1: Too clean & elegant to pass up!

B3: not too artsy... just an awesome & effective sign

C5: had to think twice about voting for a computer design that's not even a sign.. but that's why most of my talent exists too... so since it was a choice.. I think it's a winner

D4:I would have been proud to have done any of the other signs in this catagory, but this one stands out because it looks better then I could have done because of it's simplicity.. like they say..."knowing when to stop"

Is C5 a sign or just a computer sketch? If it's a sketch, what is the font used?

C5 is a sign, looks like the alphabet is Chesham Sans.
It's my pick for overall.
Plain, yet fancy, cool colors, timeless layout.
Love....jill

some I chose since they were refreshingly different, not always about the labor and techniques; tough decisions, I went back and forth. what talent!

A6 - I like the overall feel. Not real comfortable with the script on an arc... but not really sure what lettering to replace it with!

B6 - Love the layout and colors. Perfect example of a pleasant, yet very effective sign. Fits the business well, too!

C3 - Bright and eye catching. Very nice artwork.

D6 - Demands attention, great clipart, nice fade. D3 a close second!

Overall, I'm really having a tough time deciding between A6 and B6... but leaning just a smidgeon towards B6.

Nice work everyone!!

A5 overall for it's uniqueness. It is way out there for a sign but yet simple enough to read.
A real head turner.

Just to throw in my 2¢, I prefer to see the completed sign photographed in it's environment. This way you can see how it relates to it's surroundings.
I feel it's one thing to make a killer design. But if it does not complement it's environment, it defeats the principal of a good design.

Havin' fun,

Checkers
