Howdy Everyone,
We have Qty 7 .5" thick 24"x60" plexi sign that have etchlite vinyl on the backs of them to do.

Has anyone ever sandblasted acrylic and got the same effect? Has anyone ever tried it?

I just don't like the way the etchlite can be scratched off and it might be cheaper.

Thanks for any help

I have done plex, and it's EASY, low pressure, and fast! You will get a more uniform "frost" than most of the etched vinyl, but it looks really great.

I did the same thing for a coffee table top for myself. Put some decorative stuff and a chess board on the top...it transformed it completely!

Dennis,

I'd be careful with this order.

Yes you can sandblast plex, however blasting this size of panels, and getting it a perfectly smooth surface requires lots of time, and consistant air supply.

No you can't get the same look as etched vinyl.

Blasting a logo or letters is much different than large flat panels.

tend to agree with Joe.

I had ordered quite a few etched plexi sheets from my supplier 10ft x 5ft that i was going to rout as part of the stagefloor for Mamma Mia, they only had clear so I sandblasted both sides, we achieved good results for what they wanted, but as Joe says a logo is much easier to achieve well, rather than uniform coverage.

Here was a couple of pics and yes it was -many degrees and ice on the track in front of my barn!
