Just tossing this out there. Whats involved in doing sign repair as far as licenses,insurance, bonding. I already have an electrical masters licence. Looking at doing mainly repairs and maybe some relettering. I do know enough about neon to say Im not going to mess with it.

Don't know Florida laws, but most places it would be about like an Electrical Contractors.

I have an electrical contractors license that has been on inactive(still pay the license fees but just dont pull permits)since 1980. I think theres a seperate license for electric sign repair but Ive never had any problems with doing repairs as an electrical contractor.

You may just have to activate your license but I'm not totally sure on that. That site should answer some questions or provide phone numbers if you can't find the answers you're looking for.
Wish I had an Electrical Contractors license. They're the only ones making money around here!

there was a guy in sarasota i knew pretty good...SIGN DOCTOR... was his name and he did nothing but repair electrical signs....hada neat lookin 57-58 chevy 1 ton flatbed with a ladder lift....was just a RED truck no lettering and he told me he was swamped...

Gary, there is a company in Jacksonville that has several trucks that travel all over the US. So, I know that type of business is good. Especially when you build yourself a web site for repairs with photos of you fixin stuff.

travel all over? what are they storm chasers? Im mainly interested in how far you can go with "repairs" before its considered a new sign and need a permit and approval from city fathers.

That can vary from town to town. In my town, repairs can be up to 50% of the costs of a new one before I have to pull a permit sans electrical. All electrical work requires a permit unless you are just replacing the bulbs.
In another town just 20 miles away, a permit has to be pulled just for repainting a cabinet.
I would recommend contacting the inspections department in whatever town the repair work is to be done and have them provide you their requirements and rules.

Like Glenn said, it's different in every city/county around here. Just depends how much $$ the municipalities want to take from you!
