A trucker friend of ours sent this this afternoon...

This morning on the Interstate,
I looked over to my left and there was a woman
in a brand new Cadillac
doing 65 mph
with her face up next to her rear view mirror
putting on her eyeliner.

I looked away for a couple seconds and when I looked back she was halfway over in my lane,
still working on that makeup.
As a man,
I don't scare easily.
But she scared me so much;
I dropped my electric shaver,
which knocked the donut out of my other hand.
In all the confusion of trying to straighten out the truck
using my knees against the steering wheel,
it knocked my cell phone away from my ear
which fell into the coffee between my legs,
splashed, and burned Big Jim and the Twins,
ruined the damn phone,
soaked my trousers, and disconnected an important call.
Damn women drivers!!!

ya blame the truckers.

almost 4,000,000 miles under my belt and I haven't
hit any of you 4 wheelers.
But----------I can't count how many times I kept them 4 wheelers from hitting me!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've noticed that truckers don't really like it when guys in lowered minitrucks get right on their tails so they can draft off the trailer..

always manage to get myself boxed in and slowed down to 50 every time I hit the highway.

Just keep in mind,

If you cant see his mirrors, How do you expect him to see you?

Also keep in mind that it takes probably more than twice the distance to stop that big truck, especially in those stupid towns that have enacted "no engine braking laws" Dont they realize that the engine brakes assist in stopping the truck and that if they wrote a better noise ordinance instead of "no engine braking laws they could enforce it better and deal with the rotten A$$ kids who blast their stereo so everyone else who doesnt want to hear it can hear it.

Sorry had to rant cuz it ****es me off, when people blame every truck vs car accident on the truckers. Probably 90% of them are caused by the car (the unprofessional driver)

Harris, I feel the same way about motorcycle accidents around here. It don't matter if the person on a motorcycle wasn't wearing a helmet, was 3x the legal drunk limit, on the wrong side of a dark road without a headlight at 3 in the morning, all his buddies immediately want to beat the **** out of the person driving the car claiming it's his fault their buddy is dead.

I know most truckers are safer drivers than the average idiot with a license...but I still get that little tang of fear when I see a truck with the scariest words on earth on it... STUDENT DRIVER

I agree that for the most part, truckers are the safest drivers on the road. I have a lot of respect for them. Used to drive a split axel flat bed truck myself when I was young.

I strongly disagree with no engine brakes being a stupid town law. By the time you are IN the town, you shouldn't be going so fast as to need engine brakes. I live on a hill. U.S. 2 is my front street. We get hundreds of trucks a day, many fully loaded logging trucks. Only a handful find it necessary to use their engine brakes, which totally wipes out any chance of hearing the TV, radio, or a conversation until they are a block away. The fact that only a few of them use the brakes is evidence that they are not necessary.

I was downtown one day. Our main street is on a severe hill. A fully loaded logging truck, with pup was going down the hill, in the proper gear, and was nearly whisper quiet. No need for blasting engine brakes in the city.

And as far as the towns near me with noise ordinances? The police ARE nailing the kids with their loud stereos when they hear them.

Umm Dave.. FYI if you do some research you will find that mosts trucks are built today with engine brakes as a standard, the federal DOT is trying to make it mandatory. the issue of the noise I totally agree with. but thats because alot of truckers do as most guys did to their cars in their early days of driving, theyre running illegal exhaust systems that cause the truck to be louder. If you did some research you would find out that most inner-city busses have an engine brake. you will also find out that it is MANDATORY for there to be an auxiliary braking device on firetrucks and has been since 1996. Obviously the most common auxiliary braking device is an engine brake. 90% of the trucks equipped with an engine brake you wouldnt even hear it from your back yard if they had it on going past your house.

Again the town fathers havent done any research they just created an ordinance that was, un-educated and reactive instead of Pro-active. Whats even funnier is that most towns that enacted such an ordinance in our area had purchased vehicles in their own town fleet that were equipped with such engine brakes and didnt even realize it.

Wait perhaps everyone should be required to drive a truck for a period of 5 years before theyre allowed to legislate anything that affects trucks. Then and only then might they understand what it is they are legislating against.

BTW Chris I agree with you, theyre mad at the car driver for being in the proper lane when their drunk buddy destroyed the car drivers grille by swerving head on into them. Were his freinds drunk when they got mad?

Any motor vehicle accident involving death is terrible. Even if the death is to the drunken idiot that was in the wrong.

I LOVE truckers! As I said, a trucker SENT me this joke. Truckers are our bread and butter! They don't show up with paint swatches for you to match, they APPRECIATE that you make their rig look great, they are usually jovial and easy to talk to, and the best part is they usually PAY when they pick up the truck!! I wasn't blaming truckers or 4 wheelers....it's a JOKE!

I love truckers too. Doing two logging trucks right now.

I stand corrected, although it isn't worth my time to research the problem. I just want the noise to stop. If it's as you say then compression brakes can be used because if they are that quiet when properly installed, who would know?

Dave,
The brakes are probably installed correctly it's the straight through no mufflers exhaust that makes it so loud. The truck manufacturers have to meet noise limits, when they leave the factory they are quite.

Hey, hey... I want to add to Russ's comment on the bikers in shorts, & flip flops!!!!

My husband & I ride, my parents do too, & my dad NEVER let us on a bike without boots & jeans on!

Me & my husband laugh at the guys & the girls with their suntanned legs riding, because all he has to do is dump her in some gravel, & she won't be wearing shorts anymore! I know this from experience, he dumped me in the gravel & I NEVER wore shorts to ride again!
