Well, now that I've upgraded my old version of Corel Draw I notice that only a small portion of the fonts they offer are now truetype. What's the purpose of that? I'm starting over on a new computer and need certain fonts that I've already started projects in. They aren't available anymore for me to install into my sign program (Omega) because they aren't true type. I'm looking for Bitstream Arrus Black for right now. Kind of critical for a job I'm working on. Anyone seen this one for a free download anywhere?
I would also appreciate feedback on the corel thing. Anyone out there use it?

don't you still have the CD's for the old version? Maybe Corel can sell you the olf font CD for the price of burning a CD since you are already a licensed owner of the older version.
I bought Corel 9 just for the fonts & that is still all I use it for, but it was an excellent deal just for that.

Sherye,

If you still have your old Corel installation discs, you can install the fonts from it in 2 ways...

1: open the windows font folder and use the "install new font" feature.

or

2 run the Corel disc's setup and choose "custom install". De-select all of the programs, filters, etc until you get to the font install. This will give you the option of which fonts to install.

One of the reasons I prefer the second method is that you won't have to do each letter of the alphabet individually and can install ALL of the fonts in one pop.

Hope this helps...

Sherye..I have all of my older versions of CorelDraw and can install any font from any of them. Doesn't matter if you have version 12 or whatever, you can still stick in the older version CD and install fonts from it.

Fonts are fonts, doesn't matter what version CD they happen to be available on.

(Sorry for your luck in having to be stuck with using True Type fonts in Omega...You'd think that any decent program would be able to use both True Type and Type 1)

BTW..Doug.. TOTALLY AGREE...I use my ver 9 CD all the time for fonts..I don't think I have ever accessed the fonts on later CDs..ver 9 has the best selection of any, in my humble opinion. I should look at the catalogues of more recent versions I guess, maybe I am missing out on some new ones?? [Bash] [Bash]

I put all my fonts on my PC hardrive them with bitstream font navigator I let it scan my system and it catologs all the fonts. This way when ever I open a old file that needs a font Corel draw just knows where it is and it uses it. If I need to use a font that is not in my system fonts folder I just open Font Navigator and install the font.

Corel 12 - Disk 3 \Fonts\ Arrus Black is there in both TT and Type 1.

I'd reccomend Adobe Type Manager Deluxe as a font navigating tool. Makes life easier.

Dave, here's a list that among other things describes changes to Corel font library between 9 and 12. Good link, the list of missing fonts is on page 29, nothing of note.

Thanks for all of your replies. Dummy me...I never thought to plug in the old font CD and retrieve what I needed. I went from Windows 98SE to XP Pro and my little old Corel 8 wasn't compatible. I had Corel version 11 sitting on the shelf and installed it in my new system and automatically assumed nothing on the version 8 CD's would work. But of course the fonts will! Needless to say, I was able to get the job done. I do think that my Corel 8 CD has alot more fonts than Corel 11. I'll just stick with the old CD for fonts. Thanks to all of you for taking the time to reply.
