I'm looking for some advice on how to word the design agreement I finally plan to present my customers with. When doing logo design, and other artwork you wish to protect from unauthorized reproduction, how do you folks handle it? Just being flattered that they like it isn't paying the bills, so I plan to offer a wide range of products they would likely want to put my design on. Any and all thoughts are appreciated.

Are are you talking about doing a logo for a customer's company?

When I sell a logo, I give the customer all rights to reproduce it. If they decide to have someone else do designs for them, with the logo I created, I let them. They own it. There is a car dealership that has been using one of my logos for years now. I roll my eyes when I see what their designers are doing with it. Oh well. LOL.

When I do illustrations, I usually give rights for one-time use. That leaves me free to resell the image. Sometimes art directors will call and ask for permission to reprint an illustration for an additional fee.

Heres what I do, I tell them the design is free if they purchase the sign. In other words they have full rights to use of the logo after they purchase the sign. I actually add in the cost of the logo with the sign when I quote it so its really not free , but the customer perceives it that way because All they think thay are paying for is the sign. Then I give them a disk with the logo in different formats and I suggest they "brand" their business now.Thats when you upsell them on other promo Items and such.i personally, dont have the time to cahse people around on copywrite "this and that" So It works better for me this way.
Anyway, this is how I word it on my proposal:

All material is guaranteed to be as specified. All work to be completed in a workmanlike manner according to standard practices.
Any alteration from above specifications involving extra costs will be executed only upon written orders, and will become an extra charge
over and above the estimate. All signing parties are responsible for what is agreed to above. All artwork submitted may not
be reproduced, copied or used in any way except with consent of Signscientist . Any use without consent will result in a $500
fee for use of artwork belonging to signscientist unless waived by signscientist

you can use it if you like,
