They are running a full insert poster in the "Entrepreneur" magazine. I think the wording in the ad was phrased something like "Save money on expensive signs".
The whole idea seems a bit contradicting to me. A major vinyl supplier for sign makers is telling consumers that they don't need to buy expensive signs from the companies who are buying their sign viynl.
hmmmm...

And again, the ad's wording is ambiguous. This one seems to indicate that you get 2 signs for $18 (plus ink). Does that mean that 2 more cost another $18 (plus ink)? This does not sound very economical to me.
There is no "contradiction" in selling sign material to sign people and to sign people's clientele. It's very much the American Way. For instance, the U.S. sells weapons to both Colombia and Venezuela, and sometimes people get shot along the border. Cool! Then they'll buy more bullets!

sure looks like 2 panels ..
Any way for outdoor use they have a plastic sleeve. They ain't gooan last. How strong can they be? At this rate I think the user will appreciate a sign person lots more once they use this product and it falls apart.. Plus the clip art and goodies can only be used with their software.

OK, Let me see.............
I own a business that has been selling a lot of product over a long period of time and doing well, with an ever present eye to sell more. That said, it looks like I might be loosing some market share to my competors from one of my big customers. How do I make up for that loss???? Let's see...... Do you think, If I sold less product in sheet form and charge 500% more for it.......naaaaaa, that wouldn't work.

naaaaaa, that wouldn't work...
...unless we kept buying from Avery, even though they are trying to go around us & have it both ways. Should we keep buying from Avery?
naaaaa, lets NOT!
Note to add that, as many have said on Ray's thread... of course these signs are no threat to a good sign professional... but the whole concept is still a stab in the back, & I think we should vote against it with our wallets... not like anyone would still be using Avery anymore after last year anyway

Come on now guys, let's be fair about this. Avery, Avery/Dennison has been making labels, stickers, business card papers and templates for quite some time now. What used to be done by a printer, is now done in our own shops. Have you ever made your own cards? I, for one, design and produce my own business cards, mailing labels, postcards, t-shirts, and even tattoos, using Avery materials and templates. I think we will still have the upper hand as sign designers. This doesn't bother me one bit. I may even suggest it to a price shopper or two. I guarantee that after they work on this thing for 2-3 hours, and then crumple up the stickers, it will give them a better appreciation for what I offer.

You would not believe the letter I just wrote Avery. I told them that they had started a movement that would eat their sign vinyl division like a cancer. Lets boycott these bozos and make an example of one of the "big boys" and hopefully the rest will take notice. I well remember Roland's "Wanna hire a sign painter?" ad. Mike Jackson had it on a poster for the heads at the Niles meet to sign, protesting the ad and the grotesque image it gave to sign professionals. I will never buy another Avery product as long as I live.

Cool . . . I've never used Avery products of any kind, so I'm ahead by one buck-board on the proverbial band-wagon!
Their reputation preceded them with the faulty vinyl.... AND THIS IS NOT a put-down to Avery users OK????
Wait.... OK???
I'm sayin' FINE & GREAT if they made it good...I'm genuinely proud to hear that . . .
but I just prefer, and am glad, I use other vinyl that never fails in the first place . . .I'm extremely happy with my prefered vinyl and have zero reason to change... (not a rigid wench, I DID try and do use SOME Oracal as well as a few other samples)
Interestingly enough, Gregory is now carrying Avery, along with their Trendfilm and 3-M stuff . . .guess they really needed an interim intermediate line...
